The Original Chimney Sweep Inc.

The Original Chimney Sweep has been working chimneys in the Plainville, MA area for more than two decades, and its size shows: 309 Google ratings averaging 4.8 stars, and a customer base the reviews describe as multi-generational -- one reviewer wrote her household has used them since she was a little girl. The bulk of what people hire them for is the full chimney trade: sweeping and inspections, liner installation and replacement, cap and crown work, repointing and full rebuilds, plus pellet stove and wood stove/insert service. One customer had them rebuild one chimney and cap two others on a 200-year-old home while coordinating with the local historic preservation commission; another, new to a 76-year-old chimney, had it inspected and cleaned by Brayden and Logan, names that come up often in the reviews. The company has also recently added attic solar fan installation to what it offers. Technicians get named again and again -- Jim, Will, Ken, Tristan, Steve -- and reviewers consistently describe them explaining the work and cleaning up after themselves. It isn't spotless. In a June 2026 review, a customer was quoted $289 for a cleaning that couldn't be completed without a liner, then charged $195 for what turned out to be an inspection fee never mentioned at booking. In a 2023 review, another customer described a technician who was condescending, tried to upsell a chimney insert they already owned, and made a dismissive remark about the office staff; that customer switched companies and said the new shop found earlier work done incorrectly. A separate recent one-star review, from a customer with a long family history with the company, also describes a disappointing visit to a newly purchased home, though it doesn't spell out what went wrong. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, and BBB lists it as an A+, accredited member. Worth asking upfront exactly what an inspection covers and costs before any cleaning is booked.
