Thomas M Jacobs is a Massachusetts builder whose permit record reads like a Marblehead specialist, even though his address of record is in Plymouth. Thirteen permitted projects sit against his name, and the 2021 cluster is almost entirely in Marblehead itself: gut renovations of bathrooms at 23 Dodge Rd, 24 High St, 15 Meadow Ln and 5 Goldthwait Rd, a $131,000 second-level addition built over a garage at 4 Longfellow Rd, and a $100,000 job at 63 Front St replacing 35 windows and six skylights while repairing rot and missing roof shingles. Several of those permits carry the note 'as approved by ohdc' — the town's historic district commission — which is the part of Marblehead work that trips up contractors unfamiliar with it. Further afield, the record includes a $120,000 conversion of the space above an attached garage in Beverly with a shed dormer, stairway, bathroom and living space, plus older jobs in Peabody, Westborough and Northborough going back to 2000. What that adds up to is a builder comfortable with period New England houses: bathrooms and kitchens, dormers and additions, and sash-and-skylight work under historic-district review, at project values from a few thousand to well over a hundred thousand. The credentials need checking with the state rather than with a directory. BuildZoom lists a construction supervisor licence, CS-122615, as active with a February 2026 issue date, and separately lists a home improvement contractor registration, 116907, and an older construction supervisor 1-and-2-family licence, CSFA-061957, both marked inactive and described as 'at one point cancelled'. Those are the directory's records, not a live state finding, and its licence blocks are unreliable — the same page prints another number twice under two different types. Ask him for both his current CSL and his HIC registration number and check them at the Department of Public Safety and the Office of Consumer Affairs before signing. No customer review exists anywhere in the sources checked, so nothing here speaks to communication, scheduling or how problems were handled. For a historic-district renovation in Marblehead the permit trail is genuinely relevant experience — ask for two or three of those 2021 homeowners as references.
