Whitten Landscaping works out of 45 Commercial Street in South Yarmouth and is one of the larger landscape outfits on Cape Cod — the BBB records a corporation incorporated in 1999 with 32 employees, led by president Craig R. Whitten and vice president Nicole Whitten, while the company's own site dates the business to 1995 and says it is owned and operated by people who call Cape Cod home. The work spans two halves. One is design and construction — landscapes, stonework, outdoor kitchens, pool surrounds and pool installation, with seven project galleries on Houzz and building permits on file for a pool house, an inground pool and septic-system trenches around Yarmouth. The other is upkeep: seasonal clean-ups through weekly visits covering mowing, pruning, fertilisation, insect control, mulch, irrigation and snow plowing. The customer record is genuinely thin — three reviews on file, and 4.5 stars from 11 Google ratings. The most recent, from July 2026, describes an irrigation system and hydroseeded lawn installed by a crew that came exactly when they said they would; a 2021 reviewer called them the best landscape company around. Against that, a 2023 one-star reviewer wrote only "Worst landscaping company on the cape stay clear of Craig" without saying what happened, which makes it impossible to weigh. What fills the gap is longevity rather than volume. A Yarmouth Port neighbour wrote on Nextdoor in 2025 that they had used Whitten's for close to twenty years and had been very happy; the Cape Cod Times reported in 2016 that the company donated $40,000 in materials and labour to build a school utility field; and Yarmouth Conservation Commission minutes from 2006 record Craig Whitten personally presenting a slope-planting and stone-wall plan that the commission felt would help stabilise the bank. Two things to check before signing. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts landscape contractor registration, #169828, that it says expired in August 2017 and that it re-checked as expired in April 2026 — worth asking the company directly what current registration and insurance they carry. And because so few customers have written anything down, ask for references on a job like yours rather than relying on the star count. They are a sensible call for a substantial Cape Cod landscape, hardscape or pool project where crew size and a long local track record matter. Get the scope, the maintenance schedule and the price in writing.

We called Whitten Landscaping to install an irrigation system and hydro grass. They came exactly when they said they would and did such an incredible job with everything. Always on time, always professional, and so polite. This has been an excellent experience and we are so grateful they were recommended to us. If you need any lawn work done I can highly recommend them.
