Restoration 1 of Fairfield County describes itself on its BBB listing as offering mold remediation, odor control, and water, fire and smoke restoration, along with repair and re-build work. A 2023 customer said Rufino removed the insulation another company had left in a moldy attic that same day, and that his team sprayed the mold that evening and again the next day. That 2023 customer wrote that containment barriers kept anything from getting into the living space, and that the house was clean when they left. A 2022 customer said Rufino gave advice on a water spill and confirmed with his equipment that it was drying. A 2021 customer said Rufino and team handled problems from a burst pipe and storm-related flooding. A 2025 customer said Rufino answered questions about a dehumidifier within minutes and did not charge for his time. A 2024 customer had a different outcome. That 2024 customer said they paid $2,880 for a polymer seal on a wet basement, and that water came back around the seal on the very next rain. That 2024 customer wrote that it took a few tries to get Rufino back, including one no-show, that they asked for a partial refund, and that they tried for 30+ days to reach him by phone. That 2024 customer said they later got a sump pump from another vendor.
Rufino and his team are very knowledgeable and helpful and get the job done to remediate humidity issues and create a healthy, mold free home.
Rufino is a stellar guy! I reached out to him with questions about a dehumidifier. Rufino was so knowledgable, helpful and instructive. Within minutes he set me on the right path and didn't even charge me for his time. He is a very compassionate and caring person. Thank you, Rufino!!
We had a very unfortunate experience with Rufino, the owner of the Restoration 1. Originally, he helped diagnose & solve a water problem in a closet was quick to ask for a review which we wrote instantly. So, we feel it is appropriate to update our really upsetting experience for the second job we trusted Rufino do that left us out nearly $3,000 with a newborn at home. We had water in our basement winter/spring 2024. We asked if this was a job Rufino could remedy. Rufino sold us on POLYMER seal as a solution, and with a new baby at home and his good job prior previously we trusted him. Our mistake that is still costing us financially and damage-wise in our home. $2,880 for 1.5 days of work, the very next rain there was the same amount of water in the basement just around the seal on all 4 sides (photos AFTER Restoration 1 work). As a result, we had some other experts come to look at the space and all 3 said Rufino's POLMER solution was basically a "do nothing" job for our space and that only a sump pump would remedy the seepage. When we showed Rufino the issue around his $2,880 job, he initally asked for more money to do the rest of the room. We then suggested he fix it- it took him a few times to actually show up: once a no-show and another time sent an associate with no heads up that he would not be there. When we finally got him to the space he offered to do more POLYMER "for free." But at this point we accepted this was not the proper solution and no longer felt we could trust the end-product and asked for partial refund. Sadly, the trust we had in Rufino was gone. Disappointed and we felt very taken advantage of. We tried for 30+ days to get on the phone, offered times to speak to come to amicable solution and he continued to blow us off, or ask us for times to talk and never respond. Really unfortunate experience. We trusted Rufino as a sole-estimate as we had a newborn baby at home and feel completely scammed. So now we are out nearly $3k and still had to get the sump pump from another vendor. Rufino and his company should have sent a partial refund - it's simply honest & the right thing to do.
Amazingly easy to work with and incredibly responsive!
I have to say that "Restoration 1" was the most professional team we have ever hired to do work at our house. We had mold in the attic because of poor ventilation. We hired an insulation company to remove the old insulation and add new insulation. After the insulation was removed "Restoration 1" came in to do the mold remediation. Immediately we noticed that the insulation company did not to a good job removing all the insulation. Rufino from Restoration 1 said that mold remediation can't be done until all the insulation is removed. I was concerned that this messy project will go on for a very long time now. But Rufino stepped in and removed the remaining insulation with his team that day. They even sprayed the mold in the evening. They finished the work at 10pm. The next day they came back and sprayed the mold once again until it was all gone. They use containment barriers, negative air machines, HEPA vacuums, ozone machines, etc. But most importantly the house was spotless when they left. Never seen anything like this. We stayed at the hotel the entire time (4 days) and we expected to come back to a mess. It wasn't the case. Because of the containment barrier nothing went into the living space and they cleaned the hallway leading to the attic hatch, they even wiped the walls. If you find yourself in the situation of having mold, or buy a house with a mold attic problem like we did, it is extremely stressful. We went back and forth for months figuring out how to tackle this project and who to work with, because if you call 5 different mold companies you will get 5 totally different quotes with totally different techniques, and it is easy to get confused. However, hiring "Restoration 1" was the best decision we've made. I highly recommend them!!! Very professional team!!!!!
