AA-MSA Inspection Services draws two very different kinds of review: detailed praise for individual inspectors, and a run of one-star accounts from people who say things went badly wrong. The Connecticut company lists residential and commercial property inspections, environmental site assessments and mold, asbestos and lead-paint hazards, and says it has been in business 46 years. Its site cites Certification No. P0728. On the praise side, a 2021 Thumbtack reviewer said inspector Rich M. called them over after each level of the house to show the issues, how serious they were and possible solutions, with the report arriving the next day. A 2021 Google reviewer on a fourth house purchase said Rich was more experienced and detailed than the earlier inspectors. In a 2023 Angi review, a condo buyer said the inspector flagged several major common-area works; the buyer then checked those against the HOA budget and ended up not closing. A 2019 Thumbtack reviewer said Joe spent well over 2 hours on the inspection. The complaints are specific. In a 2024 Google review, a property manager said the tester ignored instructions on a sensitive test and wrote a letter to the health department that put the manager in a bad light. A 2023 Google review from a home seller said the company reported termites a second inspector could not find, offered a $750 treatment, then called it carpenter ants. A 2022 Google reviewer said the inspector missed a septic line venting into the attic. A 2022 Angi reviewer said the inspector arrived with a broken radon detector and no ladder, so the attic went uninspected and a second visit was needed. Another 2022 Angi review describes a dispute over a pending card charge that ended with Joe Raffone threatening a small-claims suit, and in a 2019 BuildZoom review a first-time buyer said Joe left before doing the inspection. A March 2025 Google reviewer said a Friday appointment was called off at the end of the day. Its BBB page shows an A+ grade.
Schedules me for Friday then calls me back at end of day when he's closed and other places are closed and tells me any other day and time but that. Weird. Tried to give him a chance despite the bad reviews
As a property manager, I’m always looking for quality contractors to work with and to refer. We had an especially sensitive situation that we were working with the health department on. We needed a very specific type of test as we were working to narrow down the cause of the issue. We gave specific instructions on the type of test that we needed. We informed the tester of the sensitive situation and to be sure to follow the instructions precisely. The lady at the office assured us that the man doing the testing had years of experience, knew how to handle sensitive situations, and the instructions would be handled precisely. Instead, the tester did what he felt like doing and further did things and tests that we specifically instructed not to do. He then intentionally created a scenario that he could file a report with the health department. The letter he wrote to the health department was worded in a way so as to put us in a bad light and to position himself as a hero for going against our instructions. What he failed to remember was that we were already in contact with the health department and were miles ahead of him in remediating the situation that we later found the tenant had caused. The fact that he couldn’t have even a little faith, and attempted to deliberately stick a knife in the back of his customer is why this business is getting 1 star. We cannot recommend this contractor and are further considering contacting the Department of Consumer Protection to report him.
Excellent service! Excellent pricing! 100% recommend!
Wow Joe was such an amazing inspector, he took the time to walk me through the house and saw details that I couldn’t see. This was a great educational opportunity to learn more about my new home purchase. I highly recommend Joe. Thank you for your time and service Joe.
Sellers Beware! If your buyer uses AA-MSA Inspection Inc as a home purchase inspection company; be prepared that your house will suddenly have phantom termites! But don't fret as AA-MSA Inspection Inc also conveniently treats non existent termites to the tune of $750 dollars and can warranty the service for an additional $150 dollars annually. Buyers. Don't risk losing a dream home because of termites that do not exist except for only in the greedy eyes of an inspection company such as AA-MSA Inspection Inc. We recently sold our home where this inspection company said there were termites present and provided pricing to treat for termites. Interestingly enough there was a pending purchase previous to this a couple weeks prior that fell through for other reasons related to the buyer and this inspector did not find or mention anything about the house having termites. Our realtor then had her termite guy to come in and he wasn't able to find any evidence of termites When we the sellers pushed back on this inspection company about the evidence of termites; all of a sudden it was carpenter ants - not termites. I had not see a single ant during my time of owning the home but in order to preserve the sale for both ourselves and the buyer we elected to have our realtors termite guy treat for carpenter ants Do not use this inspection company! Just read any of the other reviews.
