Acuarela Painting & Services is a one-man painting outfit in Winthrop, run by Francisco Angulo, and the warmest thing written about him is also the most useful. In an April 2020 HomeAdvisor review, a customer wrote that he "did more than expected," handled the prep work himself, came in as the most budget-friendly of the estimates collected, and — the detail that says the most about a painter — once he started, he did not disappear onto other jobs. The written record stops there. Its three reviews all landed in April 2020, averaging 4.7, two of them a sentence long ("He's a nice guy and does a good job!"). Nothing has been written since, so treat that 4.7 as a snapshot of 2020 rather than of today. Licensing is the thing to settle before you hire. BuildZoom lists Massachusetts registration #207902 for the company — labelled Painter in one place and Home Improvement Contractor in another — with an expiration date of 03-08-2025, and says it confirmed the number was expired again in March 2026, having at one point been cancelled. Massachusetts exempts interior-painting-only contractors from registering, but the company describes exterior and commercial work too, so ask directly whether the registration has been renewed. Two more mismatches are worth a question: HomeAdvisor's own page claims "6 years of experience" in one field and "15+ years" in another, and it lists a Winthrop contact address (93 Locus Street) different from the Shirley Street address on BuildZoom. He is a plausible call for a straightforward interior or exterior repaint where price and prep matter more than paperwork. The 2020 reviewer who mentioned a language barrier said writing the instructions down worked fine — the company advertises Spanish — so put the scope in writing, and get the current registration status before any deposit.
