Old houses keep showing up in Albion Contracting's recent reviews, and that is the clearest way to understand the company. In spring 2026, Google reviewers wrote about a 1712 colonial, a 1680 historic home, and 1800s siding; Albion says it has worked on North Shore homes since 1997, is based in Newburyport, serves the North Shore and southern New Hampshire, keeps every job owner-supervised from start to finish, and is a Certified Lead Safe Renovator. Painting is the center of gravity. Google shows 34 ratings at 5 stars, and the BBB lists Albion as an A+ accredited business with a 5.0-star score. The recent Google run is all five stars, but the more useful detail is what homeowners describe: careful prep on older wood exteriors, crews that clean up completely, and Greg or Gregory Patterson staying involved and keeping people updated while the work is underway. The repeat-business pattern is notable. A May 2026 reviewer said they had used Albion for more than 25 years across several properties in the Newburyport area, and another described several projects over the last eight years. Recent reviews also make clear that this is not just a paint crew: people mention repairing and insulating an exterior wall to stop leaky windows and frozen pipes, tightening windows, stripping wallpaper and skim coating before painting, a bathroom renovation, a drainage-system ceiling under a deck, and a shop fit-out from demo to final touches. That mix is the main thing to sort out before calling. Albion fits projects where painting, repair carpentry, and older-home restoration overlap. If your job is a bathroom or broader remodel, ask who will be on site for each trade and how Greg plans to supervise it, since one recent reviewer specifically said he brings subcontractors onto some jobs. They make the most sense for homeowners around Newburyport who want one owner-supervised contractor for painting-heavy work, especially on older houses where the surface problem may hide a repair problem underneath. Before booking, pin down whether you're hiring them for painting with repairs or for a larger remodel, and walk through prep scope in detail; much of the recent praise comes from jobs where that prep work was a big part of the result.

We have worked with Albion for over 25 years. The work included a four bedroom house, the building exterior and our interior of a four unit condo and a three bedroom house most recently-all in the greater Newburyport area. Many tough issues surfaced along the way and Gregory and his team have always found a solution and left us very pleased with the results.

It’s a pleasure having Gregg and his team (Albion Painting) on the job. Not only do they do a great job, but they’re on-time, thorough and clean up completely when finished. I wholeheartedly recommend them!

Greg was referred to me by a friend to look at painting the 1800s siding on my historical house. His knowledge and attention to detail was what separated him from the other contractors I had met with. His crew respected my property and treated it like it was their own home. They also stumbled across some old foundation problems, Greg was able to bring in his Master Mason from Ireland that he uses for his masonry projects and he did an absolutely phenomenal job, his skills and knowledge were incredible. I would highly recommend Albion Contracting for any home project.
