A recent Google customer who paid about $8,000 for an interstate move with Allied Van Lines says they are now dealing with roughly $16,000 in damaged property, including LEGO displays whose handling instructions were not followed and a Herman Miller Eames Lounge Chair. About two weeks after delivery, that customer was still waiting for the claims process to move forward and for someone to come inspect the damage. Allied's Portland page describes the company as movers for moves across town or across the country, and the company says it has been in business for 90 years. Its BBB page shows an A+ grade, and the BBB lists full-service moving with packing, assembly and disassembly. A 2024 customer said the driver told them delivery would fall outside the window the representative had promised, until they offered to show the contract. That 2024 customer also said furniture arrived with new scrapes, scuffs and dents, and that a disassembled foosball table was not put back together by the crew. A 2023 customer said they were misled and incurred thousands of dollars in additional expense. A 2025 customer said Chad made the reviewer and their wife feel safe throughout the whole process.
I paid Allied Van Lines approximately $8,000 for an interstate move. I am now dealing with roughly $16,000 in damaged property. If I could go back in time, I would pay the same $8,000 simply to have Allied not touch my belongings and move everything myself. I gave specific instructions about how my LEGO displays and protective cases needed to be handled. Those instructions were not followed, and they arrived extensively damaged. My Herman Miller Eames Lounge Chair, which cost approximately as much as the entire move, was also seriously damaged, along with numerous other belongings. There were also cockroaches associated with the delivery. What has made the experience worse is what happened afterward. It has been approximately two weeks, and I am still waiting for the claims process to meaningfully move forward. I have been instructed not to repair or disturb the damaged items until they can be inspected, so I am living in a new home surrounded by broken belongings I cannot repair or properly put away. I have had to call repeatedly just to get information and try to get the inspection process moving. At this point, I have so little confidence in the process that I am not expecting Allied to compensate me for the damage. I simply want someone to come inspect the property, make a determination, and let me move on with my life. If the answer is no, tell me no. I can deal with that. What I cannot deal with is being left indefinitely in limbo, unable to repair my belongings or settle into my home while waiting for someone to act. I understand that accidents happen during moves. This was far beyond an accident or one damaged item, and the lack of communication afterward has compounded an already terrible experience. I wish I had read a review like this before choosing Allied. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend them, particularly if you are moving valuable, fragile, or difficult-to-replace belongings.
Chad is so great to work with. I can’t say enough great things. Has made me and my wife feel super safe and just a pleasure throughout the whole process.
We didn't rate Allied higher because we were disappointed with 1) push back on the delivery and 2) the packing. When the driver called to confirm the loading, he said the delivery date would be outside the delivery window that the representative had promised. That earlier delivery window was the reason we selected Allied over competitors. It was only when I offered to show the driver the contract with the delivery window that he agreed to deliver our items on the last date of our delivery window. Also, we paid to have our fragile items and kitchen packed by professionals because those were the items we were most worried about breaking. But many of our pieces of furniture have new scrapes, scuffs, and even dents in the surfaces from the move, which was disappointing. In addition, some art had been stacked together without paper separating them and we also had furniture that had been disassembled, like our foosball table, that wasn't put back together by the crew. They were supposed to have put that together and never returned to do so, requiring us to spend hours putting that and other items back together. I know things can go wrong during a move, but for the $11,000-plus we paid, I expected it to go more smoothly.
One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever witnessed. We were misled and outright lied to and incurred thousands of dollars in additional expense because this company will tell you whatever they need to in order to get your money then not fulfill their contract.
