Most roofers will not drive out for a two-hundred-dollar leak. Apex will — and the pattern running through its written accounts is that Don Gagne then tells you what you do not need. A homeowner writing in January 2023 described a leaky roof diagnosed over the phone, an estimate the same day, the repair finished within a few hours the next, and Gagne talking them out of a full replacement on the grounds the roof had another ten years in it. A 2021 customer wrote that no other contractor was interested in their small job; Apex took the call, showed up, and charged what they called an honest fee. The Milford company also trades as Apex Roofing & Skylight, and Donald Gagne is named as owner on both directory profiles. Its HomeAdvisor page carries an Approved badge and stands at 4.7 across 73 ratings, 73% of them five stars; BBB gives it an A+ though it is not a BBB-accredited business. The two directories do not agree on how old the firm is — BBB records it as started in 1938, HomeAdvisor says 1981. What customers describe is almost entirely repair rather than replacement: leaks chased and stopped, four roof vents added in June 2021 to fix attic ventilation a previous roofer had left inadequate, minor storm damage patched on a rainy Sunday in March 2022. When a full strip-and-replace did come up, an October 2019 reviewer wrote that the old shingles came off, the wood underneath was replaced, and the job was done in a day — with the yard cleaner than the crew found it. Fair pricing and quotes honored come up again and again. A Reddit commenter in June 2023 described having their ridgeline replaced by the company. Two things to settle before calling. The written accounts are dated: the newest one on file was posted in January 2023, so the picture above is of how the company worked through 2018–2023 rather than this season. And HomeAdvisor's own profile says free estimates come with the job but warranties and emergency service do not — for a roof leak that matters, so ask directly what happens if it rains on a Sunday and what stands behind the repair. New Hampshire does not register roofers, so there is no state licence to check for this trade. This is the shop to call for the small repair nobody else will take; get the warranty question answered before you hand them a bigger one.
