Asphalt Division is a Framingham, Massachusetts paving contractor run by John O'Connor, doing residential and commercial asphalt driveways, parking lots and roads, resurfacing and repair, plus paver patios, walkways, curbing and some foundation and fencing work across eastern Massachusetts. The company describes itself as a third-generation family business in Massachusetts since 1988. Customers who had full driveway rebuilds are the most specific. In a July 2024 review, a homeowner said the crew ripped out a 65-year-old driveway and laid six inches of crushed stone under four inches of asphalt; another that August described roots removed, a new base built and the lot graded, with attention to small details. An April 2025 customer said the asphalt came out smooth as a pool table and lined up with the garage, walk and street, and that a neighbor hired the company a few days later. This spring, a homeowner said the crew pulled roots, fixed a drainage problem, regraded and repaved exactly as promised, and a Groton owner who has used contractors for years said John was the first to get it right, fixing the whole driveway, building a ramp to a side door and adding drainage. A Sherborn customer in April 2026 had custom mixed-material fencing, gravel boards and drainage done and called the price fair. Not every job ended that way. In a January 2024 review, a homeowner said their new driveway was graded wrong so water floods the garage whenever it rains, with a lip running its full length, and that the owner promised a repair, never showed, stopped taking calls, and after three months answered their Better Business Bureau complaint by saying he would not fix anything. The BBB shows one complaint on file and grades the company C+, and a separate BBB reviewer said the company never responded to a request for a quote. The state licence registry shows the company's Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration, number 212321, as expired; Massachusetts requires a current registration for residential work like driveways, so ask about it before signing. The ratings look stronger than the written record supports. Google shows five stars across 107 ratings, but about twenty of those arrived in a four-day stretch in late March 2026, most of them one-line comments like "very efficient" or "good work for me", and two of them note the price was a little high. Angi and HomeAdvisor both show 4.8 across 41 reviews, but those two profiles are one review set published twice. Thumbtack shows 5.0 across 30, where a 2021 customer described a complicated driveway with roots on one side and water on the other handled with good communication. For a driveway rebuild with proper base and grading, John's satisfied customers describe careful, fast work at a fair price, and many of them had him back. Given the 2024 account of an unfixed grading failure and the expired registration, get the grading and drainage plan and a written warranty before work starts, and confirm the registration is current.
