Backhoe Joe works out of Scituate, and what neighbors bring him are the messy outdoor jobs — stumps to grind, brush to haul, ivy pulling at a house. The people who describe the work name Joe doing it himself. The most useful of those accounts came from a Cohasset homeowner writing on Nextdoor in May 2025, about a stump-grinding and brush-removal job. He came when he said he would, the work was done well, and everything was cleaned up and carried away. For outdoor work that leaves a truckload of debris behind, that last part is what they singled out. Two days earlier, a Scituate neighbor recommended him on Nextdoor for exactly that kind of clearing — thorns, poison ivy, English ivy — and another Scituate post the same day put his name forward with nothing more than an endorsement. His name surfaced on Nextdoor once more in December 2025. That is the whole of what is publicly said about him: four Nextdoor posts between May and December 2025, only one of which follows a job from arrival to cleanup, three from Scituate and one from Cohasset. It reads as a reputation inside a tight South Shore radius rather than a long documented history — a real starting point, but a narrow one, and nothing has been posted since December 2025. Landscaping-only contractors are not required to hold Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, so nothing turns on that here. If you have a stump, an overgrown property line, or ivy taking over a wall on the South Shore, he is a reasonable call. Ask for the price in writing and current proof of insurance before the machine rolls in.
