A February 2026 customer put a lot of new hardscape into an old cape and said the crew somehow made it all look as if it had always been there. That is the job C.J. McCarthy gets hired for: stone that has to look like it belongs to the house. Chris McCarthy runs the company out of Scituate and, by its own account, has been at this since 2017, working Cohasset, Duxbury, Hingham, Norwell, Marshfield and Scituate. The work splits between landscape construction and stonework on one side, and property maintenance and planting design on the other. The stone projects are where the detail sits. A February 2026 customer listed two patios, a bluestone front entryway, a stone walkway running from the front yard to the back, and ongoing maintenance, all over a number of years. In October 2024 a homeowner described a driveway and patio built with cobble and natural stone intermixed, with drainage and changes in elevation designed into it. Another, writing in November 2024, counted four projects in five years — reseeding, clearing, planting and mulching, and a long winding walkway. The other thing customers write about is how the work is run. A June 2026 reviewer who has done many projects with Chris called communication the team's strong suit; an April 2024 customer cited clear, timely proposals and accurate schedules. A February 2026 customer liked something rarer — Chris being upfront when something wasn't his team's strong suit, and saying so. And in January 2026, after another operator fell through, Chris plowed a customer's driveway and wouldn't take money for it. The thing to plan around is timing. A December 2024 customer had to be squeezed into a schedule already full for the season, so a patio or a walkway you want finished in summer is worth starting early. A November 2024 homeowner had regular grass maintenance and yard cleanups from the same crew that built their patio and firepit areas and planted walls of privacy trees, so the maintenance and the construction can come from one company. For a homeowner in Scituate or the towns around it who wants stonework designed for the house rather than dropped onto it — a patio, a walkway, an entryway — this is a sound call. Settle the design details and the stone selection in writing before the order goes in, and ask up front where you sit in the season's schedule.
