Bay State Paving is a Braintree asphalt contractor that's been laying driveways since 1954, now run day-to-day by owner Bob McDonough, whose name comes up in nearly every review the company has on file. The site describes it as locally owned and covering residential and commercial paving — driveways, private roads, walkways, drainage and commercial lots — across a wide stretch of the South Shore and Metro Boston. The reviews that exist paint a consistent picture: in 2025 and 2026 write-ups, customers describe Bob coming out personally to quote the job, crews showing up once weather allowed, and driveways finished in a single day. Older accounts go back further — a 2021 review called the price fair on a new driveway, and a 2022 review said the owner stayed on site the whole job — so the pattern of hands-on ownership and same-day turnarounds isn't a recent fluke, it runs the length of the record. The company also turned up on Reddit in 2026 as a recommendation for driveway sealcoating. Not everything lines up cleanly, though: a 2025 one-star review complained that a self-described "South Shore paver" wouldn't take on a job in Norwell, MA — a town the company's own site lists as part of its service area. It's the only sour note in an otherwise strong file, and worth asking about directly if you're calling from one of the outer towns on their list. BBB gives the business an A+ (it isn't accredited), and Google shows a 4.5★ average from 16 ratings. There's no licensing angle here — asphalt paving isn't a Massachusetts-regulated trade — so the BBB grade and the review pattern are the best signals available.
