A recent customer renovating a small two-bedroom cottage from out of state said the job covered kitchen cabinets, a new counter, a bathroom vanity and wall cabinet, and 600 square feet of flooring, and that the end product was done well. It also ran from the first week of May to the third week of August. That customer said the flooring had to be pulled up and redone more than once after a cut in the wrong spot and damage during installs, that the kitchen and bath department and the floor department did not communicate well, and that the company never fought them on fixing an issue. Ben's says it has been in business 56 years and describes flooring, kitchen and bath design work for homes and businesses throughout Southern Maine. It holds 4.1 stars from 24 Google ratings. A 2025 customer said Jerry spent two consecutive days on new tile trim for a replaced gas fireplace without making a mess. The same customer had earlier hired the company to replace two carpeted rooms with prefinished hardwood and said that job took longer than it should have because Mike worked alone after the demolition. In the original part of that 2025 review, the customer said Kyle laid seamless carpet and made a runner for a hallway staircase with a twist and uneven stair widths, after a four-month wait. A 2025 customer with an old house said Michael installed new sheet vinyl after a quick measuring appointment. A 2022 customer said installer Michael arrived at 7:30am every day to put in luxury vinyl plank flooring and helped move heavy furniture. A 2022 customer said Isaac replaced the wall behind their wood stove with tile. A 2022 customer looking for luxury vinyl plank said they left their information, were never called back, and were told the store had no time for them. A 2021 customer said that, months after measurements for a kitchen and bath quote, they were told no quote would come until they picked everything out at the showroom.
“Ben’s Flooring in Biddo.”
OK, this one is tough. I was doing a reno on a small 2 bedroom cottage. The folks at Ben's without question are some of the nicest folks you could ever want to do business with. They were very cooperative in working remotely with me (we live out of state). They are honest, transparent, and very fairly priced. The END product was done well and we are happy with the final result. It just took WAY too long to get there for reasons that were largely preventable. It's called Ben's Flooring but they also do full kitchen and bath. We needed kitchen cabinets in a small L kitchen: literally 4 base cabinets and 6 uppers, a new counter, a bathroom vanity and wall cabinet, and 600 square feet of flooring (which was the whole home). One major problem is that the kitchen and bath department is separate from the floor department, so when there was an issue or question with one, the other didn't know about it. I didn't know this at the beginning. This is also not our primary residence so we were not there every day to see what was happening, so I would have expected more proactive communication from them so they could make sure they were doing what we wanted. (which would have saved them a bunch of time and money too) Another major problem is that they did not verify some of the install details. For example, they cut a spot in the flooring to "re-install the oak transition' between one room and glass sliding doors. But I wanted the flooring to go right up to the doors, and reinstall a 20 year old piece of oak. They would have known this had they asked me first. So they had to pull up the floor and start over. then, because of that, they ran out of flooring, so we had to wait until more came in. then, when they installed it, they damaged it, so they had to pull it up again and then order more, and we had to wait again. Then they floor damaged AGAIN during the next reinstall and we had to wait once more. And again, the flooring people didn't order any more than the bare minimum so we had to wait until the next batch came in. Meanwhile, my primary contact in the kitchen dept had no idea any of this was happening because the two departments work separately and don't communicate well. He thought one thing was done, they thought they were waiting for him, etc. There were a couple other setbacks, and ultimately it took from the cabinets being delivered the first week of MAY until the third week of AUGUST that we were finally done. That's a LONG time for the size of the job, and it could have been so much faster if they had a more efficient process and better project management. To their credit, they never fought me on fixing an issue when it arose. It was always "Ok, we will take care of that", and they did. All that said, I would recommend them as long as you're willing to stay on top of the project. Find out the name and number of EACH person so you know who to call for plumbing, electrical, floors, cabinets, etc. It's not easy to find honest contracting companies with integrity and good pricing, so Ben's is a good option with that caveat.
Very helpful in picking out flooring and right on time for measurements of rooms
10/2025- updated. We were very pleased with the work done in the past see below. We called Ben's back in for a small job, a new tile trim for a replaced gas fireplace. Jerry came to the house on time for 2 consecutive days and did flawless work. He worked without making any mess. He diplomatically worked around two 90 year old women who did not seem to notice that he had to carry tile from front porch, where his saw was set up, back to the work area. I am extremely happy with the way the fireplace came out. In the past, I hired Ben's to rip out 2 rooms of carpeted floor and put in prefinished hardwood flooring. The material and the quality of the work were EXCELLENT. I believe it was Mike, who did a wonderful job and made sure the details, like making sure the closet doors still worked perfectly. The transitions from the flooring in the hall, which was not changed, to the new flooring was perfect. If I have one complaint/comment, was that it took longer than it should because after the demolition, Mike was working alone. I have been very happy with this shop and the work that they do. My advice for anyone hiring them, is plan for the job to take a few days longer than you would expect and you won't be stressed. You will be happy with the results. Original review: I recently had my wood floors refinished (sanded and poly) and new carpeting put down. The wood floor crew was neat and contained the sawdust well. The finish was flawless. I am very pleased with their work. The carpeting was put down by Kyle, a carpeting genius who was able to make the carpet in downstairs floor and hallway seamless. He was able to create a beautiful transition between carpet and tile. The fully carpeted basement stairway was perfect. He also fabricated a runner for my main hallway wood staircase that had a twist and uneven stair widths, It turned out stunning. I had to wait 4 months to get these jobs completed, but it was worth it.
We had an excellent experience with our new floor. We have an old house and were simply looking for new sheet vinyl. They had an enormous selection of patterns. We had a quick and convenient appointment for measuring, and the floor installation was outstanding. Michael was so knowledgeable and did a beautiful job. I will definitely call Ben's when we replace a different floor in the house and I highly recommend them!
I went in looking for luxury vinyl plank flooring for my home. I was treated very rudely. I left my information to get a call back and they never did. When I finally called back myself they told me they didn't have time for me nor the product I was interested in. Needlessly rude for no reason. Wouldn't go back.
