Blue Hills Mechanical is a Randolph HVAC contractor working both houses and businesses across Greater Boston, the South Shore, South Coast, and MetroWest — boiler conversions, furnace and water heater repairs, ductless systems, and electrical work, by its own account. It says it operates under the Cape Cod Mechanical Systems family, a group that traces back to 1989, though that history belongs to the parent company rather than a stated start date for this Randolph shop itself. Its Google page carries a 3-star average from just four ratings, and the two most recent tell a rough story. One customer says a final, fully-paid invoice for an oil-to-gas boiler conversion was followed months later by a surprise $4,000 bill blamed on a subcontractor — a subcontractor the reviewer says had already been paid in full. Another reports being told a water heater's warranty had lapsed, only to find roughly two years remaining after checking with the manufacturer directly; that same visit ran to about $1,300 in furnace repairs. Both accounts landed in early 2026. Two older five-star notes — one from a property manager who says the company gets repeat commercial work, another calling it flexible and affordable — sit on the other side of the ledger, though they predate the recent complaints. Before booking, get any subcontractor or add-on costs spelled out and confirmed in writing rather than settled after the fact, and if a warranty status is in question, check it with the manufacturer directly rather than taking a technician's word for it. The company's Diamond Fujitsu and Elite Heil dealer status speaks to equipment-brand training, not to billing practices. With only four reviews on record and the two newest both flagging billing or information problems, Blue Hills Mechanical reads as a longer-established outfit going through a rough patch with paperwork and communication — worth a written estimate and a clear scope before signing off on bigger jobs like a full system conversion.

Did an oil to gas boiler conversion over 3 months ago. Received and personally delivered the check in the full amount on the invoice marked "final". Yesterday I get a bill for $4K with an explanation of "sub-contractor". I called the sub contractors and they were all paid in full. DO NOT BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE!!! SHADY AND FRAUDULENT!!!!

We had Blue Hills Mechanical come out for HVAC service and later for issues involving our water heater. During the visit, we were told that our water heater warranty was expired. After contacting the manufacturer ourselves, we discovered there were still approximately two years remaining on the warranty and were able to get a full warranty replacement approved.

That was very concerning to us, as the information provided to us was incorrect and could have led to an unnecessary full replacement at our expense.

We also spent about $1,300 on furnace repairs. The heat worked briefly, but within a few days the system returned to the same issue. We were then told the furnace (20–30 years old) needs full replacement. We understand older systems fail, but clearer guidance upfront about the likelihood of replacement would have helped us make a more informed financial decision.

During the visit, the technician stated that” he knew the furnace was to old and that he shouldn’t have worked on it.” Despite that, I was charged $1,300 for a repair that did not fix the issue and failed shortly after. I do not believe it was appropriate to charge for work that was knowingly ineffective.

Additionally, communication with the office was not a positive experience, as we felt dismissed when calling to follow up.

Overall, we are disappointed with the outcome and would recommend that others seek multiple opinions before committing to significant repair costs.

I work for a property management company who uses Blue Hills all the time. They are very knowledgeable and do a great job. I’ve never had any complaints after they’ve fixed something.
