Nearly 80 feet of a century-old granite retaining wall, on what the homeowner called a demanding, narrow site: a February 2018 Houzz reviewer described Brickstone taking that wall apart and reassembling it, and wrote that the deconstruction and reassembly took careful planning. In a November 2023 review, another customer said even the Brookline town inspector commented that it was one of the best masonry jobs he had seen. Brickstone is family-owned and works out of Hingham, and the jobs tend to start on a screen. A February 2019 customer described Ben providing a detailed, competitive proposal while Ashley created computer simulations of the finished product. An August 2018 homeowner who knew only that they wanted a patio somewhere said Ben asked a couple of questions and sent back a computer-generated design from Ashley. When a seller needed a landscape plan urgently in March 2018 to show off the backyard, they wrote that Ashley and Ben visited within hours and had a plan within days. What gets built is usually a whole outdoor space rather than one repair. A November 2020 review covers a multi-level garden terrace and new front stairs; a September 2019 customer had a patio with a fireplace built; a June 2016 homeowner got a bluestone patio, fire pit and stone wall; an August 2018 review describes two walkways and a bluestone patio, with the crew cleaning up at the end of each day. One September 2019 reviewer had hired them four times — chimney work at a former residence, then retaining walls, granite steps and culvert work at the current one. Houzz shows 5.0 from 26 ratings, along with a Best of Boston 2021 award for stone, pavers and concrete. Angi and HomeAdvisor each show 5.0 from six reviews — the same six, copied between the two profiles. The detailed written accounts run from 2016 through 2020, with three Angi reviews from January 2025 after them praising communication and a driveway's new look. Thumbtack's profile puts the company at 13 years in business with ten employees. Two practical notes before you call. The HomeAdvisor listing states free project estimates and emergency service but no warranties, so anything you want covered after the job should be written into the contract. And since the design step is where this crew separates itself, ask up front whether your project includes the rendering and plan work, or only the build.
