Two numbers frame Budget Exteriors. One is 4.6 stars across 132 Thumbtack reviews, 86% of them five-star. The other is a November 2024 account — posted on both BuildZoom and HomeAdvisor — of a roof that was still leaking after the crew had come back five times. The company works out of 400 West Cummings Park in Woburn, with a second address in Pelham, New Hampshire, and is run by Louis Milano. The work is exterior: asphalt shingle, rubber and metal roofs, vinyl and fiber-cement siding, gutters, skylights and windows, quoted across roughly 85 to 90 towns from Greater Boston through the Merrimack Valley into southern New Hampshire. In the good reviews the same three names keep appearing — Lou, sales rep John, project manager Angel. A June 2020 customer described a full siding tear-off and replacement and credited all three by name; a March 2025 Thumbtack reviewer said the walk-through and options were more detailed than any other bidder's. The complaints are specific, and they cluster on what happens after the contract is signed. Beyond the November 2024 roof, a November 2021 reviewer wrote that siding and trim problems went unfixed and promised shutters were never installed despite repeated calls, emails and texts. A March 2018 customer put it more mildly — good at the beginning, hard to reach at the end, though the trim and light-fixture issues were eventually resolved. A November 2018 one-star complaint about service drew a public reply from the company saying an electric-company delay blocked the work and all money was returned. The platform numbers themselves don't agree: Thumbtack 4.6 from 132 and Houzz 5.0 from 3, against HomeAdvisor 4.0 from 15 and a lone 1.0 on BuildZoom. Most of the written history is also older — 19 of the 27 reviews on file predate the last five years, and the record runs from 2013 to 2025. On licensing, BuildZoom lists Massachusetts home improvement registration #177704 as active from its own April 2026 check, with an older registration, #161932, recorded as cancelled; Houzz lists the same 177704. Those are directory entries, not a state confirmation — ask for the number and check it yourself. If you hire them, hire on paper: a written punch list, a stated warranty, and final payment tied to a walk-through you sign off on. That is precisely where the unhappy customers say things went wrong.
