JN Construction & Improvements

JN Construction & Improvements is a Lynn, MA roofing and exterior contractor whose reviews consistently point to one person: Ruben, the owner, who shows up to estimate jobs himself and works alongside his crew. The company says it's been in construction for well over 16 years, and its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active. What stands out across more than 180 reviews since 2021 — 15 of them in just the last six months, none negative — is speed, especially in winter. Multiple reviewers describe calling about ice dams or roof leaks during a storm and having Ruben's crew on site within hours: one homeowner reached him about seeping ice dams and had a crew at the house within two hours, the job done in 90 minutes; another called about an emergency gutter situation during heavy snow and had a crew back working within three hours. A commercial building owner with an active roof leak said other roofers quoted a week's wait, while Ruben came out the same day he called. The work itself ranges from small patch jobs to full replacements. One reviewer needed three wind-blown shingles replaced and said several companies wouldn't take on something that small — Ruben did. Others describe full roof tear-offs completed in as little as two days even in 20-degree weather, plus related work: replacing rotted wood under gutters, redoing chimney flashing after a leak (with a 2023 review noting he came back at no extra cost when a second leak turned up in the same spot), painting decks, fences and trim, and clearing moss from both house and garage roofs. Pricing and communication come up often as reasons people call him again: reviewers describe fair, upfront quotes and same-day or next-day responses to inquiries, and several say they've had him back for additional projects after a first job went well. Google shows a 5★ average from 223 ratings and Angi a 4.8★ average from 177 — both drawing on far more reviews than any one page shows. There's little to flag before booking. The business's history on these platforms extends further still, with nine older reviews on file from before September 2021 not quoted here. For a homeowner, the main thing worth asking is scheduling during peak winter storm season, when Ruben's speed appears to be in high demand.
