The newest detailed account of Caiazzo & Sons Plumbing is about a bill. In a September 2026 Google review, a customer whose hybrid hot water heater, installed by the company a couple of years earlier, began leaking onto the basement floor said the replacement unit was covered by warranty but the labor was not. They were quoted a "ballpark of $500 or less" by text, the unit was swapped in a timely manner, and the charge came to $750 for about three hours from arrival to departure. The same customer said the crew did not seem familiar with the new unit and told them to "call Matt" at the office when asked how it worked. That review gave two stars. The Scarborough shop's other written reviews tell a different story. A March 2025 review described a fast, polite technician who explained the issue and fixed it for what the customer called a very reasonable price, and a September 2024 review said the problem was fixed in under an hour, with good communication throughout. A July 2026 review praised the customer service. On Google the company holds 4.7 stars from 26 ratings, and its Better Business Bureau grade is A+. Joseph S. Caiazzo holds an active Maine plumber licence, MS90018362, on the state registry.
I contacted the company when the hybrid hot water heater they had installed a couple years ago was leaking onto our basement floor. It was under warranty so the replacement unit was covered, but unfortunately the labor cost was not. They initially quoted me “ballpark of $500 or less” in the text response to me. They came and replaced the unit in a timely manner, but then charged us $750, well above the “ballpark” estimate for a total of 3 hours of work from arrival to our house to when they left. I would understand if it was a little above the estimate if something unexpected came up or I had added any additional work, but I did not- this was a swap for a faulty unit they had initially installed and then up-charged a significantly higher amount than they said they would. I wouldn’t trust any estimate they give. They clearly charge significantly more than some other local plumbers and plumbing companies (which is why we didn’t choose them for our major kitchen renovation that included some heating upgrades). Additionally, it was disappointing to discover that the workers who installed the replacement unit didn’t seem familiar with it at all. When they finished up, I asked if there was anything I should know about it (given the new buttons on the side and possibly that it connect to WiFi for app purposes?) and the guy gave a vague response and told me to “call Matt” at the office to talk about the unit and he could tell me what I needed to know. We’ve had a lot of work done on our house over the years with many different contractors and tradesmen- I’ve never encountered one that wasn’t willing to a take a couple minutes to briefly go over the functions or the basic, pertinent information for the homeowner. It just seemed like a red flag to me. Personally, I would only consider them if you have extra money to burn and if you are in a really desperate situation- there are a lot of other honest, knowledgeable and experienced plumbers in town that would be better to work with over these guys.
