Champion Paving is a family-run asphalt outfit in Milford, New Hampshire, that homeowners hire for one thing above all: driveways. The company says Don Claxton started it in 2005 after twelve years paving for a Chelmsford firm and then a Nashua contractor, and that he still works every job himself with his daughter Amanda running the office. The Better Business Bureau has the business on file since June 2005 and accredited since 2006, carrying an A+ grade. The most detailed word about their work comes from a 2026 southern New Hampshire paving thread on Reddit, where several homeowners describe the same full-depth method: the old asphalt taken out, roughly a foot of excavation, a solid crushed-rock base, then two top coats with care taken over the hot-rolling. One says his 150-foot driveway has held up so well that "you could park a tank" on it; another says he would hire them again after judging their work well above most pavers he sees around. A five-year warranty comes up twice as something buyers did not expect at this trade. The written reviews are fewer -- four on Google between 2022 and 2024, against a 4.6-star average from 22 ratings. In a June 2024 review a homeowner credited Don and the crew with flagging weather-driven schedule shifts, working promptly and cleanly, and charging a fair price. An October 2024 review covers a driveway extension, and a 2022 one calls the finished job well priced and professional. Two things are worth raising before booking. A one-star Google review from June 2024 came from a Nashua resident rather than a customer: crews working a driveway in Hollis parked equipment on their community road, kept it there after being asked to move it, ran heavy machinery at 7am, and left debris, oil spots and scrapes on the entry road, and the writer said calls went unanswered. If your job stages off a shared or private road, settle in advance where trucks sit and who cleans up. Price is the other: in that same Reddit thread one homeowner got Champion as the lowest of three bids while another said their quote came in at more than twice the lowest, so get a written number and ask exactly what base preparation it buys. For a southern New Hampshire driveway -- Milford, Nashua, Amherst, Hollis, Merrimack and the towns around them -- this is a small, owner-present crew with a base-prep reputation among recent Reddit posters and a long, clean BBB history behind it. Confirm the warranty terms in writing, and agree the staging plan with whoever shares your road.
“I thought Champion did a far better job than most pavers I have seen around. They removed the existing asphalt, dug down, laid a layer of crushed rock and then two top coats, with special care done to hot-rolling. I’d hire them again.”
“Champions was more than twice the lowest bid we got.”
“Curiously, I got three bids and Champion was the lowest.”
“I don’t recall the exact amount. I’ll try to dig it up later. We got four or so quotes. Champion’s was the highest but not by much. They did a neighbor’s driveway and I was really impressed with their work. The warranty was a big plus too. Keep in mind that asphalt prices have probably jumped in the recent months.”
“Another vote for Champion. They paved our 150 foot driveway 3 years ago and did an amazing job. They excavated a foot down, put a solid layer of gravel and did not skimp on the asphalt. You could park a tank on our driveway. Plus they have a 5 year warranty which is unheard of. Edit: was 2 years ago”
The team did a great job on our driveway extension during late summer 2024!
Needed some driveway work done. Don and crew were excellent in communicating weather related schedule shifts, and the work was done promptly and cleanly. Fair price as well.
Parked all their equipment on a community road in nashua while doing a driveway in hollis. Asked to move equipment but they ignored the request. Drove loud heavy equipment in our community at 7 am. Left debris, oil spills, road scrapes on our entry road. They are careless and disrespectful of neighbors requests. They also do not answer their phones. Do not do business with them. Beware
Champion paving exceeded our expectations! Very well priced, very professional everything looks fantastic! If you're looking to get your driveway paved this is your guy.!! Thank you Champion!
