Crowley Cottrell is a landscape architecture practice on Liberty Square in Boston, and the work it gets named in is the kind that needs drawings and permits before anyone picks up a shovel: a school courtyard, a neighborhood design process, a city development proposal. Michelle Crowley and Naomi Cottrell founded the firm in 2011 and still lead it as principals, and the company reports 15 years in business. Both principals are visible in their profession. Pro Landscaper reported in May 2026 that Michelle Crowley is president of the Boston Society of Landscape Architects. A month earlier, Brewster Academy named Naomi Cottrell, PLA, ASLA, LEED AP, as the landscape designer leading its courtyard, in collaboration with studioDSK. A 2023 Banker & Tradesman piece put the firm — describing it as woman-owned — on a design team with CBT, EMBARC and Buro Hapold. In 2018, a North Shore CDC project had the firm leading a design process that engaged Ward Street residents. Houzz and the Procore network both carry the firm's woman-owned WBE certification, and Houzz lists professional landscape architecture licences in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Maine and Vermont. Its Better Business Bureau page carries an A+ grade. Eight projects are shown on Houzz, and eleven on Procore since the firm joined in February 2023. For a homeowner, the fit is a property that needs design thinking — site planning, permitting, how the house meets the land — rather than a crew to plant and mow. A 2021 Gardenista feature on a residential garden noted that a separate company oversaw the landscape construction, so settle early who would build what Crowley Cottrell draws, and check the Massachusetts licence on the state register before you sign anything.
