- Mixed sentiment — overall reviews run more moderate than the 4.5-star average
The strongest praise on record for DeMatos Landscaping comes from homeowners — even though the company's own website talks almost entirely about commercial accounts. Based in Peabody on the North Shore, DeMatos has been building patios, retaining walls, and other hardscape work, plus general landscape design and commercial snow removal, for roughly twelve years, according to its Better Business Bureau file (in business since about 2014), with a small crew of a few employees. Across a review history running from 2021 through 2025 and spread over five different sources, hardscape jobs are what keep coming up — patios, retaining walls, a fence installed alongside a patio project, a bluestone walkway. Reviewers describe a crew that adjusts a project mid-course to fit a budget without treating it as a hassle. Google has DeMatos at 4.5 stars from 28 ratings, and BBB grades it A+ — though the company hasn't pursued formal accreditation. Even so, sentiment across that fuller review history runs more moderate than the star average alone suggests, so it's worth reading a few reviews yourself rather than taking the 4.5 at face value. In 2024, the Peabody Chamber of Commerce recognized DeMatos at its awards — the company sponsored the 'Community Champion' category and won recognition of its own that year, a sign of some standing in its home town. Worth asking directly before booking: whether they'll take on a residential job at all, given how commercial-focused their own marketing is, and whether snow removal extends beyond their commercial accounts. For a North Shore homeowner planning a patio or retaining-wall project, DeMatos has a real multi-year record in exactly that kind of work — just confirm upfront that a residential job is something they'll take on.

Had these guys build out a patio, retaining wall and privacy fence. Al and Eddie were awesome to work with. Super transparent.

Extremely efficient and professional work. The DeMatos crew was a pleasure to work with, from the initial consultation to the finished product, with intuitive design ideas and recommendations through the project, I can't recommend them enough.

Unfortunately we can't give them a 10 starts review. DeMatos has exceeded our expectations in all phases of our project. very detailed and dedicated. when we needed to change the project they worked with us to accommodate everything we asked for into the budget. Look no further.

Irresponsible business owners. Their crew littered our car with pock marks by blowing wet leaves and dirt at in. Now they take no responsibility and will not hand over their insurance information. ⬇️⬇️ In regard to their reply- Mistakenly a previous accident record was submitted , once we realized that it was the wrong information, the corrected one was submitted, which was 100% factual and accepted by their insurance company. The fact that the owner would not hand over any insurance information to us after months of asking is not acceptable. Only after: •multiple phone calls to him at his business over months of time (with crickets) •calls and emails to the establishment the company was working at when the incident happened. •emails to a local club which he sits on. •emails to the BBB and consumer advocate agencies •bad reviews on social networking Only after all that- did he finally reach out and give the info to his insurance company.
