Dereck, who works as The Acadian Carpenter, is based on Taunton Dr in Sullivan, Maine, and holds 5 stars from 4 Google ratings. In April 2026 a customer wrote that serious water damage called for careful repair of floor joists and much more, that Dereck kept them updated at every turn, and that they were relieved to have a dry, safe home again. They rated his work, communication and fees A++. In an October 2024 review, a customer described a deck and stair built for their 86-year-old mother-in-law, who has mobility issues, with financial support from the Agency on Aging. Dereck offered to do it within their budget and dug two footing holes about 3 feet deep with a shovel; the reviewer noted someone else had quoted $700 to bring a machine for those holes. The reviewer thought it took a day and a half to get the structural part of the deck and the decking on, plus a set of temporary stairs. They then hired him to replace stairs from the driveway to the yard that had been meant as temporary eight years earlier. In a November 2023 review, a reviewer wrote that Dereck rehabbed one of their metal exterior doors at the Sorrento Sullivan Recreation Center, removing years of rust, the broken weather stripping and the door sweep, then sanding, priming and painting several layers. They planned to have him back for their other three doors.
We had serious water damage that prompted a need for careful qualified repair of floor joists and much more. Dereck kept us updated at every turn We couldn’t be happier with the work and attention to detail and we are so relieved to have a dry safe home again. If you care about your home or project The Acadian Carpenter is your guy- his work, communication and fees are A++
We moved my wifes mom into our home this past February. She is 86 years old and has some health/mobility issues. Getting outside was very difficult for her so it was evident that something was needed. We received financial support from the Agency on Aging to have a deck and stair built. Dereck offered to help us with the project and to do it with in our budget constraints! Two holes had to be made in order to put in the sonotubes for the footings. These holes were about 3 feet deep. Dereck dug these with a shovel in record time! This was particularly amaing because someone had quoted a price of $700 to bring a machine and make the holes. We had to plan taking down the old stairs and putting temporary stair at the other door as my mother in law had doctors appointments during the construction. I think it took a day and a half to get the structural part of the deck and decking put on and a nice set of temporary stairs built. I really enjoyed watching the process, watching how Dereck's masterful skills unfolded. He worked hard all day every day! I am not sure if he took any break except for when I distracted him. My wife, daughter and I were so impressed with Derecks work ethic and attention to detail that we began asking him about other work that our old house needs. We had cobbled together some stairs from the driveway to the yard. They were supposed to be temporay, maybe a couple of months but 8 years later we still had not replaced them. Dereck said he could build a set of stairs in two days so we hired him to do so. I'll post photos of the deck and stairs he built for us. To say we are happy is an understatement!! I would not hesitate to recommend Dereck for any project you might need!! Oh - he is easy to be around too. A nice guy!
Wealth of knowledge, quality work, highly recommended.
Dereck is a meticulous experienced carpenter with extreme attention to detail. He wants it done right. He rehabbed one of our metal exterior door at the Sorrento Sullivan Recreation Center. Removing years of rust, broken weather stripping and door sweep, sanded, primed and painting multiple layers of paint to get the finish required. We will be having him back to rehab our other three doors. Impressive difference in our main entrance. Highly recommend this talented professional.
