When the technician arrived, he inspected it and then changed the price to $150 per level, acting like “sorry, they didn’t tell you that on the phone.” I live in a split-level, so suddenly the price jumped to $325. That should have been a red flag, but since I had already driven home from work in the middle of the day to meet him, we reluctantly settled at $250 — which I was still not happy about. He was in and out in under an hour and left a mess both inside and outside the chimney cleanout door, with soot and debris all over my basement floor. He even used one of my own tool buckets to dump ashes from the firebox and just left it there for me to deal with. For $250, I expected a professional job and a clean workspace. Instead, I got upsold, rushed work, and a mess to clean up myself. To make it worse, I had other local companies quote me $175 for the same service. The pricing felt like a bait-and-switch, and the cleanup was frankly insulting for what I paid. For $250, I’ll just do it myself from now on.
