E GREAVES CONSTRUCTION

We hired E Greaves Construction in 2023 to do a $90,000.00, total kitchen remodel and were very unhappy with the quality of his work. 50% of the time he sent inexperienced workers. After installing several of our cabinets, we had to have him remove them and reinstall correctly. There were too many errors that we had to make him correct. He was rude, unapproachable, and angry when we brought any of his errors to his attention, telling us he did not appreciate people looking over his shoulder. He told us not to communicate any issues or questions via text or email. He wanted all communication to be done either in person or via phone.. He did not want anything in writing, and now we know why. There is a reason you cannot find very many reviews on someone who has been doing this job locally for 38 years. We learned a very expensive and emotionally draining lesson.

I had engaged Ed Greaves for a major home expansion project in 2019 that involved living room on 1st floor and master bedroom with master bath on 2nd floor. He had two individuals in his team and would bring other contractors for digging (basement space), concrete slab installation, plumbing, electricity and dry wall installation. Here are some observations that led to my rating: 1.) Ed made a fundamental mistake in calculating the floor height of the basement, as a result he had to elevate the level of the new living room (extension) by 4 inches to make up for it. This created sudden drop that was quite deceptive (for elderly people and guests) with same oak wood all around. 2.) Ed's electrician was a well read person (college degree in Electrical Engineering) but he charged 1.5 times higher than other electricians for the same job. (I verified that by asking quote from another electrician my friend had engaged in his house.) 3.) Ed claimed to have known the town building inspector for years but he failed to inform us about a rule that prevents home owner from expanding by more than 50% of the existing finished floor area. By the time he informed us, I had already paid the town to get an expansion permit AND worse still, we had to reduce master bedroom area by 80 sq ft and master bath by 30 sq ft. 4.) Ed's perspective of design and artifacts are quite old school. He didn't seem to know about European bath tub and lacked confidence in installing one. Ultimately he took help from his plumber to figure out the installation steps. 5.) Ed would get agitated when certain imperfections were pointed out. He got very frustrated and started using expletives when I pointed out that the kitchen shelf wasn't anywhere close to the design we had discussed (picture was shared via text messages). 6.) Ed had promised 10 years warranty on the entire construction but within a year there were signs of water leakage in the basement (new extension side). However, Ed denied any warranty and asked me to contract a foundation repair company instead. Water leakage is caused by faulty installation of the bulk head door. Overall, Ed's work deserves 70-70% marks. He is probably a better hire for smaller projects.

Most recent project: Kitchen Remodel E Greaves (Ed) Construction team which usually only consists of Ed and two other workers has done a lot of work for us over the years. He does good work not always perfect but if you have any issues he will do his best to fix them. My husband has trust issues so it was just easier to just stick with E Greaves Construction rather than get estimates from other companies. Both Ed and Rich (who have been working for Ed for many years) are very likable people. They will listen to your concerns and usually try to make things right unless it is time for them to move on to another job then things get pretty rushed at that point. Like I said they are a very small construction company that takes on large jobs so I get that they need to move on when the job is finished. For the most part, my new kitchen looks great. My house is old and not level so they did the best they could with what they had to work with I suppose. Now here comes the part I wish I did not have to write about but feel I should share so others do not experience what I have experienced. Ed is a contractor, not a tiler. RICH IS NOT AN EXPERT TILER. I finally have a new kitchen but unfortunately, the tile job was subpar! It does not look like a professional tile job. Ed himself bragged about doing other subway tiling jobs and how great they came out and how the homeowners picked out different color grout and how cool it looked so I had no reason to believe that they would t do a great job installing my subway tile backsplash instead I got an amateur tiling job. So if you do hire E Greaves Construction and I am not saying you should not because he does do good work and has a lot of good qualities it is just that tiling is not one of them. When I pointed out the imperfections I did get I am sorry but when you fork out that kind of money for a kitchen remodel I am sorry is not good enough. Take my advice and make sure Ed hires a professional tiler to do your tiling/backsplash. It might cost more but you get what you pay for in my experience. *RATINGS: 1 STAR FOR THE BAD TILE JOB

Ed’s construction team was great and did a good job in a timely manner at a reasonable price

My wife & I contracted with EGreaves (Edward) to remodel our kitchen in December 2019. We found EGreaves construction with searching Home Advisor and selected them after evaluating several other contractors. While the price quote from EGreaves was consistent with our other estimates, EGreaves won our business by being thorough, communicative, and responsive to us during our evaluation. Our kitchen remodel project was extensive...demolition to the old kitchen, siding, doors, window, load bearing wall, plumbing, running new electrical, under counter and in-cabinet lighting, new cabinets, new appliances, new counter, painting and a backsplash covering exposed walls. EGreaves projected a 3 month timeline to complete the work. They showed up every day with smiling face and kept us informed of their progress. They were respectful of our home and finished the job within seven week. Edward and his team is become part of our close friends. I would and have recommended him and his work to anyone who asks who did the work or thinking of doing work. To get EGreaves construction to do your project big or small you will love it.
