EJ Paving is the asphalt company much of the Merrimack Valley calls when a driveway has to come up and go back down. Google carries 4.7 stars from 196 ratings, and homeowners have been writing about the company steadily since 2020. It works out of 101 Lindberg Ave in Methuen and says it has been paving New England for 39 years — a claim that lines up with the 1/1/1987 start date on its Better Business Bureau file, where it is accredited and rated A+. The company describes itself as family-run and second-generation, with Tom Evangelista as president and his son as vice president, and it is listed as a Methuen Chamber of Commerce member. Residential driveways are the bulk of what homeowners hire them for, alongside walkways, parking lots, milling, reclamation and grading, asphalt maintenance and winter snow removal. Recent customers single out individual staff by name: a June 2026 driveway job credits Jason for a crew that was quick and skilled and for the care taken over proper drainage and pitch, and a July 2026 job was described as quality work delivered ahead of schedule. Another recent customer paid more than expected and chose them anyway, on the grounds that they are trusted and dependable. Two things are worth raising before you sign. A minority of one-star accounts over the past two years describe asphalt that failed after installation — edges crumbling, weeds coming through, water pooling where it had not before — and say the company was slow to come back and put it right; one of those customers says a third-party contractor did the work. Separately, several complaints come not from customers but from people living near job sites, over early-morning noise ahead of permitted start times and oil left on the road by equipment. Scheduling is the other recurring theme. More than one homeowner describes a signed quote followed by a start date that moved or a job that quietly went away, with one suggesting smaller jobs get pushed behind larger ones. The 5.0 scores on Angi and HomeAdvisor rest on the same five reviews published on both sites, so read them as one small sample rather than two independent ones; Google is where both the praise and the complaints actually sit. EJ Paving is a solid call for a full driveway tear-out and repave, especially if you want a crew with real volume and equipment behind it. Before booking, ask who will physically be on site, get the asphalt mix and the finish course written into the contract, and pin down the workmanship warranty and the callback process for settling, pooling or edge failure in writing.

New driveway looks great. EJ Was more $$ than we initially thought it would be and ultimately chose them because they are trusted, dependable and do good work.
