Sixty-one reviews deep, and what jumps out is that customers write about people rather than a company: Jose, Edwin, Reynaldo, Kris, Wilkin. Essential Landscapes runs out of North Reading, and the same crew-lead names turn up review after review, year after year — the mark of a maintenance outfit whose customers see the same faces every week.
The work people describe is seasonal-maintenance bread and butter: spring cleanups, mulch, bed weeding and deep edging, mowing, and shrub and tree planting. A July 2026 customer described one crew weeding and another finishing the mulching, and singled out the attention to detail. In a May 2026 review a homeowner said Kris, Edwin and Artie planted new shrubs and trees and mulched the area. An August 2025 customer described a bigger job — a rock perimeter, all new plantings that grew in over the season, and a Japanese Maple moved to a newly built island.
The written history runs from 2022 through this summer, and 13 of those comments landed in the last six months, none of them negative. Customers stay: one wrote in February 2025 that they had been with the company six years, another in May 2024 that Essential had cared for their property for over ten. Two habits come up again and again — a fixed weekly slot (a May 2024 customer wrote that they come the same day and time each week, so it is never a surprise) and emails ahead of snowstorms, since the same crews plow through the winter.
Two comments break the pattern and are worth reading. In a December 2023 review, a customer wrote that after meeting Tim in the back yard to discuss lawn ruts left by construction trucks and spraying weeds in the bark mulch, no service followed. In a January 2024 review, a customer who was otherwise happy noted that wet weather led to parts of the lawn being chewed up by mower tires. Both are old, and nothing like either has appeared since.
Its BBB page carries an A+, though the business is not BBB Accredited — two separate facts. BBB also lists a state licence number for the company, which is BBB's own record rather than a verification, so check it with the state if your job needs one.
For weekly mowing, seasonal cleanups, mulch and bed work on a North Reading-area property — with plowing through the winter — this is about as well-documented a choice as the area offers. Get the scope you agree on in writing, and ask who your crew lead will be.
