Excel Mechanical is a Tewksbury shop built around HVAC work — AC and furnace repair, boiler service, mini splits — but its call sheet stretches into plumbing too: burst pipes, water heaters, drain and gas work all show up in its reviews. Reviewers know the technicians by name, and the same handful come up again and again across years of comments. The last six months brought 78 reviews, all but two of them positive, and the pattern holds through the deeper history. One reviewer describes Ivan installing a gas water heater and walking through the new shutoff valve and permit requirements it needed. Another had Randy come back for a follow-up after an AC unit that had just been cleaned started leaking again hours later. Further back, a 2022 review recounts a burst pipe that flooded a family room overnight, with two technicians on scene within the hour, and a 2023 review describes a boiler failure and a burst pipe handled together during a sub-zero cold snap, with a crew out the next day after other plumbers weren't picking up. A few things are worth confirming before booking. Massachusetts's state registry verifies the company's HVAC contractor license, number 650-SM-B, and currently lists it as expired. Pricing draws occasional pushback: a 2023 review described a $15,000–$20,000 quote to replace two AC systems with no work actually done that day, and a different company later finished the job for less; a 2026 review flagged a $289 charge just to diagnose a furnace that wouldn't light. One 2026 review also says a mini-split installation developed a ceiling leak that the company offered to fix, then stopped returning calls about. Google lists the business at two different volumes — 4.9★ from 36 ratings and 4.8★ from 550 — likely two listings for the same shop. Thumbtack puts it at 4.9★ from 92 ratings. Between the specific technician praise and the license and pricing questions above, Excel Mechanical looks like a reasonable call for routine and emergency HVAC or plumbing work, with the license status worth a direct call before anything bigger gets scheduled.
“Excel Mechanical was great. They used to be based in Somerville on McGrath Hwy but moved to Tewksbury for obvious reasons. Get a quote through MassSave, then go get two more once you have that. You can use your MassSave quote to negotiate the other two down. Ultimately though, you likely want someone that will make the rebate process easy on you. I found Excel to help a lot.”
Peter did a fantastic job…both times - with repair as well as HVAC maintenance. We have 1 repair awaiting delivery of space part…but overall a great job thus far.
On time, let me know when he was on his way, pleasant, efficient. I’d be happy if Peter were my assigned technician in the future.
Miquel was prompt, friendly, professional and did a thorough job!
Mike did a fine job here. He worked very hard. The mini split is all set but unfortunately the main AC is faulty and he had to turn it off and let ice melt. He had said someone would call me but no one has it is rather hot in here and it is a weekend. We have had trouble with this unit and had to live without AC a month ago for over a week. I hope this doesnt happen again. No fault of Mike. He did fine.
very professional, efficient, and personable
