Excel Mechanical sends a technician, and the technician gets named. Across 550 Google ratings averaging 4.8, plus another 92 on Thumbtack at 4.9, the reviews read like a roll call — Ivan, Miguel, Randy, Bill, Joseph, Peter, Roberto — with the same beats recurring: called ahead, arrived on time, shoe covers on, explained the fix, cleaned up. One customer in May 2026 came home to find Roberto had already replaced the water heater and left. The work splits two ways. Heating and cooling is the bulk of it — AC diagnosis in the middle of a heat wave, mini-splits, a high-velocity system, furnace and boiler service — and the plumbing side is nearly as busy, mostly water heaters, along with toilets, gas fitting, burst pipes and drains. The Tewksbury company is BBB accredited and its BBB page carries an A+ grade, and it moves at volume: 96 reviews in the last six months out of 428 written since 2021. Two things temper that. The first is what happens when a job goes wrong after the truck leaves. In March 2026 a customer wrote that a mini-split install looked fine until an uninspected leak put a large hole in their ceiling — the company offered to do the repair, then stopped returning calls. In July 2026 another said the technician had shut down a faulty main AC and promised someone would call, and by the weekend, in the heat, nobody had. Even inside the five-star write-ups, a March 2026 customer had an on-demand water heater installed, was left with no hot water, and needed a second technician to redo much of the first one's work. The second is what happens at the diagnostic stage. In February 2026 a customer of twelve years standing was charged $289 to diagnose a furnace that would not light, told the valve was blocked and the part might no longer be available on an older system, and had a sales rep booked for a new system before they went for a second opinion. One more thing to settle before booking: the state registry shows the company's Massachusetts HVAC licence, 650-SM-B, as expired, with Excel Mechanical Inc as the holder of record. Ask for the current licence covering the work you need. Note too that customers write about this company under more than one name — Excel Mechanical, Ace Home Services and Unique Indoor Comfort all turn up in their own words — so confirm which entity is on the invoice and the warranty. For routine service, a stuck AC in July or a water heater that has quit overnight, this is a deep and consistent operation whose technicians people ask for by name. For a larger install, get the post-install inspection and the come-back terms written down, and confirm the diagnostic fee before anyone rolls a truck.

Peter did a fantastic job…both times - with repair as well as HVAC maintenance. We have 1 repair awaiting delivery of space part…but overall a great job thus far.

On time, let me know when he was on his way, pleasant, efficient. I’d be happy if Peter were my assigned technician in the future.

Mike did a fine job here. He worked very hard. The mini split is all set but unfortunately the main AC is faulty and he had to turn it off and let ice melt. He had said someone would call me but no one has it is rather hot in here and it is a weekend. We have had trouble with this unit and had to live without AC a month ago for over a week. I hope this doesnt happen again. No fault of Mike. He did fine.
