Highlights
- Long trading history — BBB records a 1984 start, 42 years
- Single Google rating — that one rating is a 1-star
- Dated written record — newest written account goes back to 2020
- BBB unrated — bureau says it lacks sufficient information
Ferris Landscaping has been cutting and planting around Methuen since the Reagan administration — the BBB puts its start date at 1 January 1984, which makes it 42 years in business, run by David Ferris with four employees out of 464 Merrimack St. Four decades of work and almost no public paper trail. Google carries a single rating, and it is a one-star. That is one person's verdict over 42 years, not a pattern, and the written account behind it is dated — the newest written review on file goes back to November 2020 — so it can't tell you anything about how the crew works today. The BBB has not issued a rating either, saying it lacks enough information, and the profile is not accredited. There are no complaints on the file. What that adds up to: a long-established, small, word-of-mouth outfit whose reputation lives offline. If you're considering them, do the legwork the internet won't do for you — ask David Ferris for two or three addresses of maintenance or planting work nearby that you can drive past, ask about that lone one-star directly, and get proof of liability insurance plus a written scope and price before anything starts. Massachusetts exempts landscaping-only work from home improvement contractor registration, so there's no registration to check unless the job grows into patios, walls or paving — at which point ask again.

I'm pretty sure this is the company that was doing a cleanup at Greycourt State Park in Methuen and the man was VERY rude and wouldn't let people into the park. Pretty sure it's a public way. Could have been more polite about it, basically called my cousin dumb for trying to enter the park. If your looking for a company with polite workers this is NOT the place to go. Ide look elsewhere ☺️. I'm all about respect to one another and he was just plain rude and turned his back to me when asking why he wasn't letting people enter. Nice look for your company and I feel sorry for the men he has working for him...
