Five Star Chimney Maintenance, trading as 5 Star Chimney Service, is a chimney sweep and repair company that says it has served New England since 1996, covering Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. It shows 4.8 stars from 70 Google ratings, 4.8 from 244 on Thumbtack and 4.5 from 11 on BuildZoom, and the BBB lists one complaint against it. Several customers describe same-day work. A July 2026 Angi customer said the crew showed up on time with a competitive quote and capped the chimney the same day, while another July 2026 Angi reviewer said the service was prompt but the price a little high. In a March 2026 Google review, a customer said Sean and Allen updated their chimney liner and the stove was running with better efficiency and burn time, and a May 2026 Thumbtack customer said the crew fixed two chimneys, taking one down, the same day it was inspected. The complaints are serious. A customer wrote on Angi in May 2025 that they hired the company in 2023 to fix a persistent chimney leak, spent $7,200 over seven follow-up visits, and still had water coming into their daughter's bedroom; a May 2025 BuildZoom review describes the same kind of unresolved 2023 leak repair at $5,400. In December 2025, a Google reviewer said the office manager quoted one price over the phone and the technician arrived with different numbers, and an October 2025 reviewer said they were trying to get their money back and the company was not responding. A February 2025 Angi reviewer said a lifetime warranty on a wood stove flue installed in 2018 was not honored when a part failed, because they had not used the company for service. In an October 2020 BuildZoom review, a customer said they took a day off for a Saturday appointment and nobody came or called. On Reddit in 2025 and 2026, one commenter said 5 Star did great work and offered financing, while another warned people not to use the company and a third called someone working there a scammer. In the same June 2026 r/SalemMA thread, a commenter who hired 5 Star after getting multiple estimates said they were happy with the work.
