The Better Business Bureau grades Five Star Discount Roofing of Halifax an F, and it says why: a failure to have a required competency license. The bureau also lists the business as not accredited with it, and open since 2012. The work it lists is roofing, siding, gutters and additions — jobs where the licensing question matters, since a roof replacement or an addition in Massachusetts is exactly the kind of project a construction supervisor licence and home improvement contractor registration exist to cover. So settle that first. Ask the company for its Massachusetts licence and registration numbers and the name they are held under, and confirm them with the state before any deposit or contract.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from FIVE STAR DISCOUNT ROOFING & SIDING. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
A square is 100 sq ft of roof surface — bigger than the floor plan because of pitch and overhangs.
