Gary Gilbert Masonry shows 4.7 stars from 65 ratings on both HomeAdvisor and Angi. In 2019, a customer said Gary took on a challenging repair to a 180-year-old brick cape and matched the repair to the original brick work so you can barely tell anything was done. A 2019 customer said Gary rebuilt a natural rock retaining wall, replacing a wall held together with mortar with a free-standing one that lets water pass through. In 2017, a customer said Gary did an exterior chimney repair in the middle of winter, knew when to work and when not to in the cold, and cleaned up when he was finished. In 2022, a customer said Gary worked with a stone quarry to have a round granite cap made for an outdoor fire pit, and always quickly responded to text and phone messages while the project ran long and slow. A 2018 customer said weather stretched a stone wall project past the expected time, and that Gary added steps down the wall and in front of the shed. A 2023 customer said Gary quoted a per-square-foot rate and a three-week wait, then stopped responding: "Strung me along for a month and then ghosted me." In 2020, a customer reported a no-show after five promises made over phone and text. In 2017, a customer who had a firebox replaced in an inside fireplace thought the price was high for the amount of time spent on the job.
Gary called me within minutes of posting project on site. Met with me the next day (end of June 2023) to go over project. Told me his per square foot rate, which I agreed to. Bragged about how sourced his stone locally and also told me that the stone was included in the quote. Gary said he was 3 weeks out. I agreed to everything. Said he would get me samples the following. Did not hear from him the following week. Called him. He seemed aggravated that I was calling him after he did not respond to my text or phone calls. Said he would call me the next day to tell me when he would show up to do job. Never called and did no hear from him again. Strung me along for a month and then ghosted me. Very unprofessional, rude and would not use him if he was the last mason on earth.
Gary was very quick to respond and schedule the work. Great guy and his workers did an excellent job.
I met with Gary in October to discuss adding a granite cap to my outdoor fire pit. The original fire pit stone and mortar had deteriorated. Gary was able to work with a stone quarry and have them create a round sold granite cap to go over the existing stone. The granite was delivered and placed on top of the pit today as he had to drive a truck across my lawn and we wanted to be sure the ground was frozen. He will return in the spring to finish the work by applying mortar under the granite and he will also do some stone wall repair at that time. While this project has been long and slow, Gary always quickly responded to my text and phone messages. The cost was more than I would like, but material costs are very high everywhere right now. I will definitely work with Gary again.
Excellent work and professionalism. His work is impeccable and he is very personable. Final project turned out great!
Gary and his worker showed up on time were neat and respectful of my homeâ s interior and did quality work
