GM Industries, Inc. is a solar installer out of Tolland, and its own site says it was "established in 1980 as an electrical and electronics service company." A 2024 customer said their system, installed in 2010, was on a pole so the roof was not damaged, followed the sun all year, and that Glenn could adjust it remotely. A 2024 review from Rich of Action Glass LLC said the company constructed and installed a 60-panel, 2-axis tracker that had supplied their power needs for nearly 10 years. A 2025 customer wrote that the system's solar production exceeded any rooftop application, while warning that GMI "isn't known for meeting times." A 2025 customer called the team professional, efficient and knowledgeable. A 2025 customer said they ordered a tracker system and battery storage in January 2022 for $110,949, and the concrete footing was installed in April 2022. That 2025 customer said progress resumed 32 months later, the tracker was installed and tested in December 2024, and their first electrical bill was minus $426. That 2025 customer also said Glenn unilaterally removed the backup batteries and inverters from the contract. A 2025 customer still awaiting a tracker said the footer and conduit were installed in late summer 2024, and promised installation dates in February and June came and went. A 2023 customer said they signed in January 2023, the footing was poured in February, a meter socket went in by May, and nothing more had been done by October after they had given $30,000. A 2025 reviewer whose home's previous owners bought solar from GMI said the company's name had changed to SunTrackerUSA, that a $900 repair left the tracker still not moving, and that GMI refused to give the login and password for its locked motherboard. A 2026 prospective customer said SunTracker USA's owner, Glenn Martin, sent unsolicited text messages after the customer declined a $46,500 full-installation quote, including "You'll never get a system. Just let it go."
I had an extremely disappointing experience with SunTracker USA and its owner, Glenn Martin. I contacted the company because I was seriously considering purchasing a dual-axis solar tracker. I received pricing of $35,500 for a 12-panel kit and $46,500 for full installation. After comparing the proposal with other systems, I politely informed Mr. Martin that the pricing was not competitive with the alternatives I was considering and that I would not be moving forward. His response was astonishing. After initially replying “Understood,” he continued sending me unsolicited text messages. Among his comments were: “So you're a McDonald's fan which is good peasant food.” “You'll never get a system. Just let it go.” “You're in the wrong neighborhood in the wrong place.” “Just stay with the power company. Don't waste your dollars.” All of this occurred simply because I declined to purchase his system. Solar equipment at this price is a major, long-term investment. A customer may need to depend on the manufacturer years later for technical assistance, replacement parts, and warranty service. After receiving these messages from the owner merely because I chose not to buy, I would have no confidence in how I might be treated if an actual problem arose after the sale. To be fair, I did not purchase the tracker and therefore am not reviewing its performance or reliability. This one-star review is based entirely on my firsthand experience as a prospective customer and the communications I personally received from the owner. I have retained the proposal and screenshots of the complete text-message exchange. Based on my experience, I would not recommend doing business with SunTracker USA.
Currently awaiting install of my tracker. Installation of the footer and conduit was completed as expected in late summer of 2024 with a return date in February to install the panels and tracker. I questioned the winter installation due to living in upstate New York, but it was promised that would not be a problem. February came and went and I was promised installation in May or June, June came and went and I was promised late September October we we are now in October and I am told maybe January or February. As tax credits are expiring at the end of the year, I’m unhappy that the installation may not qualify for the federal tax credit which amounts to about $28,000. On top of that, I’m frustrated with an unclear timeline as I had expected the cost of the loan to be offset by my savings in utilities and currently I’m having to double up on those expenses for an entire additional year beyond what was initially promised. I'm hoping to return to this review and edit it to reflect positively once my installation is complete.
In January of 2022, we ordered a solar tracker system and battery storage from GM Industries. The total cost of the contract was $110,949. The project required the removal of many trees on our property; this was done by our regular tree service in March of 2021 at an additional cost of $17,000. Fairly quickly, in April 2022, the concrete footing was installed, along with a trench to the house and some electrical boxes outside and inside the house. It was 32 months later that progress resumed. Several times in the interim, installation dates had been promised, but nothing happened, leaving us angry and frustrated. Glenn explained that delays in getting equipment were due to COVID and other supply-chain issues, but he promised us it would get done, and that we would be thrilled with the state-of-the-art project. In December, 2024 the tracker was finally installed and tested, but it took another 6 months for Eversource to install our meters (they balked at the dual meters we needed for our backup circuits). The tracker looks spectacular and indeed is a technological wonder. We're thrilled with the generation numbers we see, averaging 135 kWh on a sunny day in August. Our first electrical bill was MINUS $426. Unfortunately, the back-up batteries and associated inverters were unilaterally removed from the contract by Glenn, a disappointment, given the elapsing tax credit.
Previous owners of our home bought solar from installer GMI. Since then, GMI has been sued so many times, the name has changed to SunTrackerUSA to hide all the poor reviews acquired. We learned quickly upon move in that Glenn's business tactics were not to be trusted & he became outraged when we refused his expensive (yet optional) system Monitoring, in addition Maintenance Services. Mysteriously, Glenn would warn that in order to follow the sun throughout the day it required Internet connection; however, it would eventually malfunction & require repair, which would then take him months to perform. He once sent his teenage son, while seeminly high on marijuana, who then supposedly broke something else. Even more suspicious is how solar would work just fine whenever Offline, & then Glenn would appear suddenly at our doorstep or actually already on our property working on the stand alone solar panel without our permission, later demanding payment while refusing to honor warranties. GMI always claimed it was lightning damage & not covered under warranty. Shouldn't a tall device such as this within the middle of our land have been properly grounded for that when installed? Paid him $900 to fix it, but solar tracker still nonfuctional. It generates some electricity, yet not moving & thus not completely impacting our electric bills as should. He wants a thousand dollars 1st & harasses us many late nights with profane voice mails in addition numerous threatening text messages. Obviously, we avoid dealings w/him for the next 2 yrs. Requested Google to remove pictures Glenn had of our unit on all GMI websites as had been without our consent & Google obliged since we had never been compensated. While in the midst of selling our property, we try to finally have the unit fixed by a different solar electrician. Turns out the tracker's motherboard is electronically locked & GMI refuses to give us the login nor password. Better yet, while contacting his secretary Elaine about it, she stated that he had remotely froze it way back when & just needs to release it with the push of a computer key once online. Upon learning of our impending Closing, Glenn now pulls out all the stops, currently trying to extort us by sending falsified service invoices to the realtors, title company, & mortgage broker, scaring the Buyers to walk away by saying we've unpaid over $4,000, making all those involved doubt we own it outright! I included these to show how they are exactly the same, yet numbers are simply quadrupled. Meanwhile, while contemplating notifying law enforcement as well as civil court, we are now going to make this huge solar panel finally useful by making it a billboard warning for everyone to stay away from SunTrackerUSA / GMI Solar. It speaks for itself while stuck in the same position.
I had an excellent experience with GMI Solar, would give 100 stars if I could! The team was professional, efficient, and knowledgeable throughout the entire process. Highly recommend GMI Solar for anyone looking to go solar – great service and top-quality products!
