GMI Asphalt is a New Hampshire paving, grading and excavation contractor that also makes its own asphalt: the company says it bought the former Hard Drives plant at 33 Punch Brook Rd in Franklin, NH, and runs its paving division from Belmont. It describes itself as standing behind its obligations since 1977, names Warren Colby as owner and general manager, and says GMI and CLD Paving combined forces, citing 55+ years of paving experience between them. The accounts that actually describe paving work are good ones. A 2025 customer praised the measuring and estimating, said an employee named Taylor stayed with them through the whole process and kept them updated on schedule, and noted the new pavement matched asphalt the company laid for them almost fifteen years earlier that is still in good shape. A 2023 r/newhampshire commenter said GMI paved their Moultonborough driveway and they could not be more satisfied, and a 2024 reviewer working in the trade called its asphalt some of the best they had used. The negative side of the record is a different subject entirely. The one-star reviews on file are about driving: a 2025 reviewer described being cut off on a 50 mph road near Meredith, two more in 2025 called the drivers aggressive and unprofessional, and a 2023 reviewer called the operation unsafe. None of them describe a paving job. So the questions worth asking are about site and road conduct rather than workmanship — who supervises the trucking on your job, and who to call if there is a problem with a driver — alongside the ordinary ones about schedule and warranty. The company publishes a materials lien waiver and a workers' compensation guarantee, and says its employees are OSHA certified; ask to see current certificates rather than taking the page for it. New Hampshire does not register paving or home-improvement contractors, so there is no state licence to check for this trade, and none appears in this record.
“We had GMI Asphalt do our driveway in Moultonborough and could not be more satisfied with the job.”
AMAZING friendly and knowledgeable staff from the office to the drivers and ground guys. Top notch work, and hard working people who really care about there customers. And if anyone is looking carefully at these reviews, I'd like to point out that, John Scarce, Noba04, and Parker Baston, are all the same one person reporting on one instance, and absolutely has nothing to do with this company listed above. That black truck in those photos, with the license plate ending in 1113, is a completely different company than the one listed here. The photo James Hanson posted is what these company's vehicles look like big and small. So, please disregard those posts, kindly, thank you. ~Jennifer Here are samples of all the different vehicles at the company.
For all the years I have done paving I have heard nothing bad about this company but positive things
very unprofessional company that employs drivers who suffer from emotional instability and throw cups at people on the road because your driver cut them off
Extremely aggressive unprofessional drivers. I'd think you'd vet people who drive around with billboards for your company better. License plate 525 1113
Great job measuring and estimating, suggesting alternative ideas. Taylor stayed with us through the whole process and kept us updated on schedule. Pavement is still fresh but looks good, matches up well with the asphalt they did for us almost 15 years ago which is still in good shape. Good job!
