Grasshopper Irrigation holds 4.8 stars from 656 Google ratings, 4.8 from 119 on Angi and 4.6 from 268 on HomeAdvisor, with an A+ grade from the Better Business Bureau. Its website describes a family-owned Tewksbury irrigation and landscape lighting company owned by Dennis Hoffman, which says it has been building customer relationships since 1997. A customer who moved into a house with a dormant irrigation system said Grasshopper tested it, walked them through each sprinkler head, presented options with no hard selling and upgraded a control system about 20 years old on the first visit. A customer said a new irrigation installation left the yard looking as if no one had been working there. A customer said they were charged for a job that was not completed, with no explanation of its status; instead of paying the $2K additional quoted, that customer hired another company that fixed a loose solenoid for $85. A customer said the owner arrived for a booked appointment, photographed a no trespassing sign and left within minutes, and the office would not send him back. A customer whose system was installed well said office staff tried to push them off on questions about flow alarms. A customer said they canceled before the first visit after an office exchange over the wrong notes for their home. In a 2026 review, a customer said a leak behind an extreme water bill was found after some digging, a cracked part was replaced and a flow-meter was installed. In a 2024 review, a customer said an irrigation system went in within 4 hours and the grass pieces the machine dug up were put back. A 2025 customer said a technician charged again for head changes on the same heads changed at the spring turn on, and that the company ignored requests for a refund. In a 2022 review, a customer said the owner terminated their maintenance contract and hung up while a pump kept running after a spring start-up.
Charged me for a job that wasn't completed. I'm fine with paying for your time, but no explanation as to the status of the work completed, what they could or could not do, nothing. And when I asked them how things were going I was told, "everything was fine." So instead of paying the $2K additional they quoted, I hired another company who fixed the loose solenoid for $85. I was a loyal customer, but not anymore!
Had sprinklers installed a year ago. The installation was fantastic, very knowledgeable crew. They also came back several times to tweak each area and be sure each head/zone was being covered. I use them for spring turn on and fall turn off
I moved into a house and realized there was a dormant irrigation system. Grasshopper came out, tested the system and then walked me through each sprinkler head. They explained what was working well, fortunately a lot was, and showed me what issues there were and presented options. I appreciated there was no hard selling. I was the one who was looking to add heads for better coverage; which we scheduled later that month (after the spring rush of system maintenance work). The date of the first visit they were quickly able to upgrade the control system which was about 20 years old. I found the prices reasonable especially given everyone I have met takes the time to explain the work they're going to do and also check in after it's done with a report on how it went. Highly recommend this company!
Great experience with Grasshopper from start to finish. Their pricing was very competitive, communication was excellent, and they were always responsive to any questions and throughout the process. The installation was smooth and easy, everything came out great. Very happy with the new irrigation system and would definitely recommend them.
Booked an hour appt to meet with the owner to show him damage being done by ineffective irrigation. He shows up at 856am, walks to my mail box, takes photos of a no tresspassing sign, and leaves as I am driving onto my street at 859am. I call the office and asked if they had sent someone and she said yes quote is on the way. I said he left as I was getting to my house. She says he is the owner knows what to look for. From the street??? Yes he has been doing this a long time. Can you send him back, problem is 80 feet back from the road? No, he was put off by my no trespassing sign. I said the owner is not willing to come make thousands of dollars, not arguing with you, rep Keri says. I said you are 5 mins away not going to make the effort to see up close the damage being done? I cleared my schedule for a company full of incompetence, rudeness, and arrogant. Do not use this company they will waste your time with foolishness!!
