H.A. Stone and Sons describes itself as a Maine fence company providing residential and commercial fencing and enclosure installation to the York and Cumberland County community. A 2025 customer said the company installed a rail fence, privacy fence and chain-link fence professionally. A 2024 customer said H.A. Stone worked inside an existing fence to keep daycare dogs safe during the installation, and praised the work and respectful conduct. A 2023 customer said the company arrived two weeks earlier than planned with 24 hours' notice, leaving no time to prepare the area; after being sent home, calls went unanswered. A 2022 customer said an accepted fencing quote increased by $1,000 after scheduling delays, and that no fence had been installed after 12 months of trying to arrange the work. A 2022 customer also said the company returned the customer's husband's calls while failing to respond to the customer.
I had 3 fences done by them. A rail fence, privacy fence and chain link. All are professionally installed and I know they will stand behind the work. Most of my neighbors hired them as well.
Our house is in the middle of being painted and although it’s a nice house, before posting photos we want to send photos that will give the fence the recognition it deserves. H.A. Stone was here for a few days understanding we have a couple of daycare dogs here at our home. They were so considerate that they worked inside of our old fence, ensuring the dogs safety throughout the process. Not only did they do quality work but they were respectful and pleasant to have here working. With three generations all here and working together, it was very impressive to see the youngest “D3” already knowing more about fences than most 100 year olds know about life. We highly recommend them.
Lots of confusion on install dates, many unreturned phone calls, showed up 2 weeks earlier than planned with 24 hour notice, didn't allow us time to prep the area, sent them home , many calls after still no response, evidently they do like getting jerked around either and don't understand the customer is still number one.
Contacted them in August 2021 for a fencing quote. They wouldn't call me back or answer; would only speak with my husband when he called them 2 weeks later. Finally got someone to come out and provide a written quote. I called to accept the quote and did actually speak to a representative who said they wouldn't be installing the fence in 2021 but would call in spring 2022 to schedule. (Spoiler: they didn't call to schedule. I called them, received no callback. My husband called them a month later, received a callback.) This spring my husband called them about scheduling. They advised that the quote was outdated, and came out to remeasure and renewed the quote for $1K more, citing increased costs of materials. Again, we accepted the quote. They said "We'll call to schedule." It has now been 12 months since we started trying to work with this company. We are still waiting to be called to be put on the schedule for 2022. We still do not have a fence, though we have saved up to pay the quoted price in cash. This company will not communicate with or contact female customers. This company will renegotiate on accepted offers when their scheduling slips. This company will be losing out on our cash payment, which we will be taking along with our business to a more reputable southern Maine fencing company.
They did some work for me recently. It looks and functions great.
