Heritage Improvements is a small Wakefield, Massachusetts remodeling and construction company that takes on whole-house renovations, kitchens and baths, additions, decks, carpentry and roofing across the Boston metro area. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #187726, is verified active with the state registry under the company's own name. BBB lists Stephen Pearl II as owner with Mariusz Bochynski as partner and puts the headcount at three; the company's own site names the two of them as its licensed construction supervisors. The company says it was established in 1990, and BBB records a 1/1/1990 start with incorporation in 2016 — a long trading history for a firm this size. BBB grades it A+ and shows a second location at 165 Beal Street in Hingham. BuildZoom counts 36 permitted projects. The written accounts are few but unusually specific, and most of them are dated. In a December 2020 Houzz review, a homeowner described Steve and Marius stripping the trim from failing columns on a farmer's porch, diagnosing the structural flaws, working with the homeowner's own engineer on the fix, and getting it closed out before the heavy winter snow. A February 2021 reviewer with a contemporary home in the Seaport hired them for a glass wine room with a suspended rack, and wrote that they said up front they had never built one exactly like it. Another 2021 customer had a large bay window replaced on time and on budget. A 2020 kitchen client singled out the planning — few surprises, and solutions when problems came up. The one recent voice is the opposite. An August 2025 Google reviewer said calls took forever to be returned and that when they wanted a kitchen done they were told the schedule was full for the year. That is a complaint about reach and availability rather than about finished work, but it is also the newest thing anyone has written. Two things to sort out before you commit. The site advertises home improvement contractor #113273, which BuildZoom marks inactive; the registration that is verified active is #187726, so ask which number your contract will carry. And the site claims BBB accreditation while the BBB profile grades the company A+ and states plainly that it is not accredited. A reasonable call for a Boston-area homeowner who wants an owner-run outfit on a kitchen, an addition or a piece of structural carpentry, and who is prepared to be patient about getting on the calendar. Ask for photographs and references from work in the past two years — the detailed praise on file is from 2020 and 2021.

Awful has no idea what they are doing. Will not even pick up the phone. These guys took forever to call me back and when i needed to get my kitchen done they told they were all booked for the year and would have to wait till next year. Too buys and non professional. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND !
We needed to replace a large bay window, and Marius and Steve did a great job. On time and on budget, very professional and responsive. Will happily use them again.
I cannot recommend these guys enough! Let me start by saying that this is the first review I have ever written - and I feel the need to leave my feedback because Steve and Marius are THAT good. I have a contemporary-style home in the Seaport, and I wanted to install a glass wine room with a suspended wine rack. After finding Heritage Improvements via a Google search, I contacted them to to do this project with me. 1. HONEST. Steve and Marius told me that they had not done a project exactly like this ever before, but they promised that they would do it right. They certainly did not disappoint! These guys triple check everything every step of the way. If there is something they aren't certain about (i.e. they weren't familiar with the specific wine rack I ordered), they are online looking up a manual or they are on the phone with a representative from the company. 2. FAIR. I will also note that this "behind-the-scenes" work was not done on my dime. Steve and Marius are extremely fair. Any extra research that had to be done to ensure things were completed the best possible way was done after-hours, free of charge. 3. SPECTACULAR WORK. I am very particular - I notice mistakes, inconsistencies, etc. and I cannot overlook them. These guys to beautiful work. Plain and simple. 4. THEY LISTEN. I was going for a very specific look. Steve and Marius really took the time to understand what I wanted. 5. CLEAN. I am also a bit of a neat-freak. I was beyond impressed with how clean their worksite was at the end of every work day. 6. FABULOUS COMMUNICATORS. I received either a phone call or in-person report of what work was completed for every day they worked at my condo. I was updated each time they were in touch with one of the other tradesmen involved in my project (i.e. electrician, refrigeration specialist, glass installer, plumber). 7. ACCOUNT SUMMARY UPDATES. I received weekly account summary updates. These included information about materials purchases (i.e. the cost of materials for that week, which specific materials were purchased, and from which stores the materials were purchased). Any materials that were not used were returned, and next week's account summary included a credit for the returned materials. If materials cost $47.89, I was charged $47.89, NOT $50. 8. RESPONSIBLE. Steve and Marius made sure to be at my condo on any day that one of the other tradesmen was present - just to make sure that everyone was on the same page. Again, they did this free-of-charge. 9. TRUSTWORTHY. Prior to Steve and Marius, I did not feel comfortable leaving anyone unattended in my home. You can trust these guys. 10. GOOD PEOPLE. Steve and Marius are kind. Two specific examples that come to mind are: 1. My dog kept scratching to go outside. I was caught up doing something for my daughter and couldn't tend to the dog's needs at that very moment. Marius sweetly insisted that he was heading out to his truck regardless, so he could take my dog out with him... and he did! And, 2. Steve and Marius returned some things to Home Depot for me that had absolutely nothing to do with them or my project. Heritage Improvements will make sure your home project turns out exactly how you imagined, or better.
Steve and Marius did an excellent job reinforcing the columns supporting the roof on our farmer's porch. They removed the trim on the columns that were failing, diagnosed the structural flaws and working with our engineer provided the necessary structural support and put everything back as good as new. They worked quickly and efficiently and went out of their way to ensure the project was completed before the heavy winter snows. We could not be happier with their work.
They are simply the best. Every project we've thrown at them has been done super fast at the highest quality. They are extremely honest and even talk me out of work that doesn't need to be done.
