When Holliston Public Library needed its old memorial bench brought back, the job went to a one-person shop in town. The Holliston Reporter, writing in 2022, credited Cortney Black of Holliston Handy with taking the bench apart, refinishing the cast iron frame and reassembling it around newly milled slats. That is the shape of the business: Black runs it herself, describes it as woman-owned, and takes the small work most crews turn down - window repair, painting, drywall patching, insulating, fixtures and installations, in Holliston and the towns around it. One thing to settle before you hire. Massachusetts issued her a home improvement contractor registration, #186889, and the state registry now shows it expired; BuildZoom last checked in April 2026 and found the same, with an expiration date of January 30, 2021. Small repairs often fall outside what that registration covers, but anything that counts as home improvement work does not - so ask her directly where the registration stands before agreeing to a larger job. There is also no written customer record to lean on: BuildZoom's profile for the business carries no reviews at all. For a small, specific repair from someone the town's own newspaper has named, that may be enough. For anything bigger, ask for recent addresses and the registration status first.
