Google shows a 5-star average across 4 ratings, and the three reviews on file each run a sentence or less — "Top notch builders" is the most concrete of them, and one is a reverie about the drive into Cambridge. The Better Business Bureau grades the company A+ and shows no complaints, a clean sheet rather than a deep one.
Two federal entries are worth raising before you sign. A federal violation database logs a $8,272 penalty against Homer Contracting, Inc. for a wage-and-hour violation under the Davis-Bacon Act, dated to 2018; Davis-Bacon governs pay on federally funded construction, so it speaks to how the firm handled its own crew on public jobs rather than to the quality of the finished work. The company also appears in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's files, and it is fair to ask what came of that.
There is a labeling wrinkle too. One permit directory presents the business as a residential kitchen-and-bath remodeler of 22 years' standing, which sits oddly beside its own description of a government-work specialty dating to 1992. The Massachusetts registry does list an active Home Improvement Contractor registration, number 160694, held in the name Homer Contracting, Inc.
For a town, housing authority or school district buying exterior restoration on an older public building, this is a firm with a current and verifiable public-works history. A homeowner should start by asking whether it takes residential work at all, then ask directly about the 2018 wage penalty and the OSHA entry.
