In a June 2026 Google review, a customer wrote that Ann at Hurlbutt Designs turned their old mill condo into "a sophisticated rustic retreat" while they were away — "We are not full-time residents (so needed everything done turn key)" — and that once the furnishing started they decided to gut and remodel the kitchen, which Hurlbutt "handled... with ease" and "worked with all the contractors necessary to do the job." The reviewer also called billing "considerate of budget and well organized." Hurlbutt Designs is on Western Avenue in Kennebunk, Maine. Its BBB profile describes retail sale of home furnishings and unique gifts plus interior design consultation, and its website names Kennebunk and Kennebunkport as its service area. It holds an A+ BBB grade and a 4-star Google rating from 24 ratings. In an August 2024 review, a customer who wrote that they moved to Kennebunkport six years earlier said Louise and her team had handled their family's projects from small store purchases to "major kitchen, bath and media room renovations, sunroom, dinning room and garage additions." Another August 2024 reviewer wrote that Hurlbutt Designs had completed interior design projects for them on four residences in three states and works well with builders and architects. A third August 2024 customer wrote that Louise helped them from start to finish on a new home after earlier updating their existing one. In a September 2024 one-star review, a customer wrote that they found a blue and white ottoman tagged $200, were then told it had come from a tent sale and been "cleaned up" so it could not be sold at that price, were offered 50% off an original $995 price instead, and watched the sale tag being removed. In July 2025 a reviewer wrote that they were ignored by the staff when walking in from the tent sale. An August 2024 one-star reviewer called the store overpriced and accused it of "reselling items that were returned."
“This open and inviting Kennebunkport second home was designed for attractive yet comfortable multigenerational use. The family includes members from 4 to 89 years old, so Bonnie Weeman of Hurlbutt Designs made sure every detail was selected with the fun, sea-loving group in mind.”
“Hurlbutt Designs Spec-tacular Interior - Decor Maine”
We could not be more pleased with the work done by Ann at Hurlbutt Designs. Although their retail store is very nautical, they had no trouble making our old mill condo a sophisticated rustic retreat. We are not full-time residents (so needed everything done turn key) and still they handled everything seamlessly from afar. Once we started the furnishing, we also decided to gut and remodel the kitchen. Hurlbutt handled that with ease as well and worked with all the contractors necessary to do the job. We absolutely love everything about their design and ease of relationship. Billing and cost integrity was also considerate of budget and well organized. We highly recommend them.
Rude, was ignored for as many times as there were employees (8-10). I walked inside from their tent sale, and said hi as I walked in. Completely ignored again. They’ve earned 3.9 stars for a reason.
Always enjoy going through the store to see the latest trends in decorating. The furniture, accessories, & gifts are always well displayed, making it easy to imagine the look in your own home.
We stopped in around Christmas, the staff was wonderful. One woman so kindly asked my daughter to choose an ornament from their tree as a gift. It was a very warm experience.
If I could give zero stars I would. We found a blue and white ottoman for $200.00 that we loved. When we wanted to purchase it, they told us that it was originally from a tent sale and it had been dirty but they had "cleaned it up" and now they couldn't sell it for that price. Instead, they offered to sell it to us for 50% off the original price of $995.00. So they are selling "dirty, cleaned up" items on the floor of their shop ( without customer knowledge) and not honoring their own price tag of $200.00. Instead, they removed the sale price tag of $200.00 in front of us and now presumably they are selling it for the original price of $995.00 or perhaps the "sale price" of 50% off $995.00 but not letting customers know that the item has been dirty and subsequently "cleaned up." This means that any item purchased in the Hurlbutt store could have been in a tent sale, become dirty and stained, and then "cleaned up" and the customer would never know and think they were purchasing a new item. This is an upscale shop that should not be involved in such shady practices. Dishonest and Disgraceful!! Retailers should honor their own sale price tags and should not be passing off "cleaned up" items from a tent sale as new.
