Another builder hired Innov Builders to handle his own client's bathroom remodel in Hingham this spring. That is the kind of referral that is hard to buy — a general contractor handing a subcontractor the finish work and then saying so publicly. Iago Henrique Oliveira Maciel arrived from Brazil in 2018, worked as a carpenter for a local builder, and started what was then called Innovation Construction after taking on a house siding job of his own. Today the company runs out of Wakefield as Innov Builders with a crew of about 15. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, 212869, is active. It belongs to the Wakefield Chamber of Commerce, and Thumbtack made it a Top Pro in 2025. The reviews cluster around two things. The first is finish work: a stair project where the homeowner called the crew perfectionists, kitchen cabinets fabricated accurately and installed on the day promised, built-in shelves fitted into a space too small to be easy, cherry countertops refinished with text reminders beforehand and payment taken by Venmo. The second is less common in this trade — a willingness to take the small piece. One homeowner said the team knocked out several small projects that were parts of larger jobs, without insisting on being hired for the larger jobs. Both Google and Thumbtack sit at 4.9, over 58 and 60 ratings, with 65 hires booked through Thumbtack. The one substantial complaint is worth reading closely, because it is about the deal rather than the workmanship. A homeowner who had already gone through a proposal, an estimate and a showroom meeting learned only at that point that the customer is responsible for selecting and buying the products from Home Depot, with Innov installing what the customer bought, and said the website, proposal and estimate should have made that clear up front. So ask early: who buys the materials, from where, and is that written into the estimate. One more thing to pin down is history. Thumbtack's profile puts the company at four years in business while its own blurb on the same page claims over twelve years of experience — the longer number reads as the owner's time in the trade rather than the company's. Several of its credentials are its own statements rather than outside checks: OSHA training, insurance, and a Balanced Scorecard management certification it says an outside institute audits. Call them for finish carpentry, cabinets and built-ins, a staircase, a deck, or a kitchen or bathroom you want done cleanly — and for the smaller job most contractors will not call back about. Before signing, confirm registration 212869 with the state, get the materials-purchasing arrangement in writing, and ask to see photos of a job like yours from the 174 on their profile.
