Two fence companies had already said no — the work was too small to bother with: a broken gate latch, a few posts that needed resetting, some missing pieces. Writing in June 2025, the homeowner said JC Fence happily took it and came out to look. J.C. Fence has been in Middleton since 1972 and calls itself a third-generation family business, fencing the North Shore and southern New Hampshire in wood, vinyl, aluminium, chain link and custom work for homes and businesses. Its Google rating is 5.0 across 100 ratings and its Better Business Bureau page is an A+. The jobs customers describe are rarely straightforward. An oddly shaped back yard needing a custom layout, finished in two days this May. A property with chickens, dogs and existing barn gates to rehang, done in 2025 with three different types of fencing. A design reworked this April to satisfy a historic commission. A white vinyl fence replacing a raggedy three-foot chain link in 2025. An aluminium fence around a pool in 2024. A fence a car drove through, repaired within a week of the call in February 2025. The names recur. Matt walks the site and asks the questions that tell customers he knows the trade; Colby writes the detailed proposals; Bob heads an install crew; Jaanika keeps the office in touch. Tom, Makayla, Anthony, Bryce and Jon all get thanked by name. One 2025 customer said the crew arrived on time every day, left the yard spotless and finished a little ahead of schedule. Price comes up as well. A 2024 customer collecting three quotes found JC's came in slightly lower than the other two. On Reddit, a Salem-area commenter who handles a lot of fence work through their job wrote in 2024 that JC's prices were far better than a larger fence company's, and another in 2025 said they use JC a couple of times a year and find the prices more than fair. One thing to know: the company also runs a snow division. Customers through the 2025-2026 winter describe an email before each storm asking whether they wanted a plow, and a driveway cleared in time for a 4am departure for work.
