A driveway widened and regraded, with an oak stump removed and a French drain installed: that is how one homeowner described J. Cosgrove Construction in a March 2021 HomeAdvisor review. The customer said the crew put down recycled asphalt, arrived when promised and worked under a contract. In April 2021, another homeowner described Joe and his crew removing shrubs and root balls beside a neighbor’s fence without damage, then spreading and grading topsoil. The company says it is based in West Springfield and specializes in structural steel, concrete construction, excavation, demolition and civil contracting. Its website reports seven years in business and describes serving commercial clients, property managers and municipalities. Customers have also described work at their homes. A June 2022 reviewer said Joe installed French drains by the front and back barn doors to address pooling water; the same customer said he had previously installed a stamped-concrete patio. An October 2022 reviewer praised a driveway extension. In May 2023, a Google reviewer described the owner and crew moving six yards of river stone by wheelbarrow onto a backyard slope. An October 2023 customer praised the work on a walkway and its price. More recent Google reviews, from April and June 2026, praise Joe’s responsiveness and the crew’s effort. HomeAdvisor and Angi each display a 4.8-star average from 50 ratings, while Google displays 4.5 stars from eight ratings. There is also a serious contrary account. In an April 2023 BuildZoom review, a Holyoke homeowner said Joe Cosgrove opened the roof and framed a window dormer, then stopped showing up for weeks. The customer said he left the job incomplete after advance payments and never returned, requiring another contractor to correct mistakes and finish the work. The Massachusetts registry verifies HIC registration 201019, with Joseph Cosgrove as holder of record, as expired. The company’s website describes it as fully licensed and insured; that licensing claim differs from the expired HIC status. Its BBB grade is A+.
Joseph and his employees, group of great guys and very hard workers. Went above and beyond for the work they did. I have been recommending them to a few people that need work done. Thank you all.
Joe was great to work with- super responsive and the work was excellent!
Joe and his team were outstanding in the approach and execution of the job at my home and solved a problem that has plagued this home for the 15 years I been here. I thank them for their tireless efforts and positive attitude while doing it. Thanks again !!!!! Thankfully yours, Mike Raimondi
Cosgrove Construction did a Fanstatic Job with my walk way! Joe and his crew are very knowledgeable and professional. They were detailed orientated and made sure I was content with the final results. I would happily recommend them as a trustworthy and sensibly priced construction company.
The owner and his crew are exceptional, polite and hard working. Installed & spread 6 yards of large river stone on the slope of the dingle in my backyard. All by wheelbarrow, back breaking work! Highly recommend!!
