J. Coutu's Outdoor Services is the one-man-plus-crew yard operation that customers around Ayer and the Nashoba Valley know as Wide Range Maintenance — nearly every review on file uses that name, and almost all of them talk about Joey, the owner who quotes the job and shows up on it. The work spans the whole outdoor year. Reviewers describe mulching by the truckload, lawn mowing on a fortnightly cycle, bed expansion and edging, tree removal after storms, stump grinding, an excavation project, pasture re-seeding, mailbox posts, and winter shoveling and plowing. It is a general outdoor-property crew rather than a specialist in any one of those. Mulch is where the scale shows. A May 2026 customer had nine yards laid and said the crew cleaned up afterwards and gave notice of arrival times. A June 2025 reviewer described Joey using a satellite map of the property to work out coverage, then laying 130 yards in three days. Storm work comes up repeatedly too: an August 2025 customer had a tree that came down across a driveway cut to stove lengths, split and stacked in their barn, and a June 2025 customer had a storm-felled tree removed the same day with the stump ground out. Pricing discipline is a recurring theme. A May 2025 reviewer wrote that he charged what he said he would, with no "this took longer than I estimated" and no "you didn't spell out that you wanted this done too." An August 2024 customer on an excavation job called his costs and billings transparent. The one detailed complaint is recent and worth reading. In April 2026 a customer who hired the crew to expand landscape beds by about two feet, edge them and lay black mulch reported that the scope was confused between inches and feet, that they paid extra to have it corrected, and that the finished beds were still not properly edged, the mulch thin and uneven with grass and weeds showing through, and the cleanup incomplete. Ask for the scope in writing with measurements, and agree what "edged" and "cleaned up" mean before work starts. Two of the enthusiastic reviews come from trade contacts rather than households — a local realtor who manages investment properties, and a business that refers its own customers on — so weigh those differently from a homeowner describing their own yard. This suits a Nashoba Valley homeowner who wants one crew for mulch, mowing, storm cleanup and snow, and who values a named owner on site. Snow plowing is not something this directory tracks as its own trade, so ask directly about winter coverage.
“Wide range maintenance LLC”
Wide range maintenance did a great job expanding and cleaning up my backyard! Communication with Joey was excellent from start to finish and he always arrived on schedule and completed the work as we’d discussed. Highly recommended, and I will engage them for future projects!
Wide Range Maintenance applied 9 yards of mulch on our property and we are very happy with the work done. Joey and his team did a great job. Very professional and they cleaned up after and respected our property. I definitely will be using them again. Communication is top notch too. Notified me when, what time they would arrive and they came early. You will be happy too.
We hired Wide Range Maintenance to expand our landscape beds by approximately 2 feet, edge them, and install black mulch in the front and side yard. There was initial confusion on their end regarding the scope (inches vs. feet), which we clarified in person. We agreed to additional cost for the corrected scope, materials, and time in order to complete the job properly. Despite this, the work performed did not match what was discussed or paid for. The beds were not properly edged, mulch was applied thinly and unevenly with grass and weeds visible throughout, and cleanup was incomplete with debris left behind. Portions of the work appeared rushed, including mulch being spread over existing grass rather than properly preparing the beds. When we raised concerns and attempted to resolve the issues, communication became unprofessional, confrontational, and even threatening, no meaningful effort was made to review or correct the work. We ultimately paid in full to end the situation and avoid further threatening confrontations. The quality of work and overall experience did not align with the price charged, and we would not recommend this company.
Great experience with Joey removing a large downed tree. Prompt quote, very prompt scheduling service, and great job with cleanup.
Joey does an amazing job cutting my grass every two weeks, always leaving my yard looking neat and beautiful. His attention to detail really shows, and the communication is excellent. Always prompt, friendly, and reliable. I highly recommend his services to anyone looking for quality lawn care!
