J.W. Studley and Sons describes itself on its website as a tree service and landscaping company serving Southern Rhode Island, and says it has been in business 35 years. It holds an A+ grade from the Better Business Bureau and a 4.3-star rating on Google from 31 ratings. A 2026 customer with quite a few trees to cut down said the company returned the call promptly, came to see what needed to be done, set up a date and had the project done on time. That 2026 customer also said they cleaned up when they were done. A 2025 customer wrote that the company cleared the land of multiple trees and stumps, and praised the price for the amount of work. A customer with a landscape business says it uses the company's mulch for all of its landscaping jobs. Firewood is where things have gone wrong. A recent customer paid 275 for wood they were assured was seasoned, found just about all of it above 30% moisture after it was dumped, and says the owner won't take their calls. A 2025 customer said a cord bought as seasoned firewood arrived wet and unseasoned, and that a request to have it replaced got nowhere.
Ordered wood for the 2026 fall season. Paid 275 for wood I was assured was seasoned. Tested one piece the driver selected off the truck and it was okay. After he dumped it, I discovered just about all the wood was above 30% moisture. I called to complain and the owner won’t take my calls. Now I’m stuck with wood that won’t be usable until the following season. Don’t trust them, they’re liars.
John and his crew are top notch. Weather you need tree work done, fire wood delivery or mulch they will take care of you. Our landscape buisness uses there mulch for all of our landscaping jobs!
I will never use any other company. I had quite a few trees that needed to be cut down! Studley and Sons promptly returned my call, came to see what needed to be done, set up a date and had the project professionally executed on time. They cleaned up when they were done and I was extremely satisfied with everything they did. I was very pleased with the quote and I will contact them again for additional work. I’m extremely disappointed with my experience with JW Studley & Sons. I purchased a cord of seasoned firewood, but what I received was a full cord of wet, unseasoned wood that’s impossible to burn. They came recommended, so I trusted I’d be getting quality product — unfortunately, that wasn’t the case at all. I reached out to have the wood replaced with proper dry, seasoned firewood, but I’ve gotten nowhere. Looking back, I honestly should’ve canceled my check and made them come back to make it right, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Now I’m stuck with wet wood for the season and have to find another company to deliver me a new cord. If I could post videos, I would post the video I took of the sizzling wood when trying to burn. Highly disappointed and would not recommend based on my experience.
They did an amazing job clearing the land of multiple trees and stumps. Meticulous work and attention to detail. Great price for the amount of work that had to be done. Thanks John!
