Johnson Building & Remodeling

Johnson Building & Remodeling is a family-run general contractor based in Rutland, working under father-and-son owners George A. Johnson and George A. Johnson Jr. across Central Massachusetts. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, and permit records show 18 completed projects in towns including Rutland, Holden, Maynard, Westborough, Northborough and Newton — window and siding replacement, deck resurfacing, basement finishing with a bathroom, kitchen and bathroom remodels, a sunroom addition and a $400,000 two-story rear addition in Newtonville. The written record is thin but consistently strong. In a 2022 review, a customer who hired the company to finish a basement and build a front portico called George's quote fair and competitive and said the finished basement matched the rest of the house down to the flooring, baseboards and window moldings. In a 2025 review, another customer who said George and his crew have handled 'all my remodeling' called them professional, on time and reasonably priced. A 2020 Reddit recommendation from someone who'd worked with the company on two separate homes points the same direction. BBB has rated the company A+ since opening its file in 2014, though it isn't a BBB-accredited business. Worth knowing before calling: the company's own site doesn't give a founding year, and its 'nearly a decade' process-tenure claim sits on a page carrying a 2018 copyright, so it shouldn't be read as current — worth asking directly how long George and his team have been doing this.
