Jolt Electric Inc is a Salem, MA electrician run by owner John, working with technicians including Steve, Keith, and Aaron. The business has built a strong local reputation over several years, showing up repeatedly across Google reviews and the r/SalemMA subreddit as a trusted recommendation for wiring, service upgrades, and general electrical repair. Reviewers describe detailed work: fuse box replacement with a new electrical mast, EV charger installs with breaker, wiring, and conduit work, and electrical upgrades to bring older wiring up to safety code. Several customers say Jolt corrected wiring problems left by a previous electrician, and one reviewer described the owner personally answering a late-night call about a burning smell and offering to send someone out immediately. On Reddit, John and the team have been recommended repeatedly across multiple electrician-recommendation threads in Salem. A couple of accounts describe rougher experiences worth asking about directly: one reviewer says a job's final bill came in at double the quoted price, and another says Jolt never followed up after promising a quote. For wiring, panel, or EV-charger work in the Salem area, Jolt's long, detailed track record makes it a reasonable call — just confirm pricing in writing before the job starts.
“Knob and tube - jolt electric in Salem. Have required multiple homes for me, call explain the situation and they may give you a ballpark range or may want to see it in person or learn more.”
“The bill was fully 2x what was quoted.”
“another Jolt customer...”
“Thirding Jolt. They’ve been great every time we’ve used them. Polite, on time, respectful, and willing to explain anything to you.”

John was very up front and communicative about our situation with an a/c system fault and breaker repeatedly tripping. He took our weekend call, and sent his guy Steve out right away. Steve was awesome- he even opened the a/c unit and saw a burnt out contactor, pointing us in the right direction for HVAC. He also traded a 70 amp breaker for a 60 amp so it would be in code. He also noticed some poor connections on our Generac modules and fixed them. We’ve used Jolt before, and I highly recommend them!!
John and Jolt team were responsive, professional, reasonably priced and did excellent work. They are respectful of their clients and clear communicators. I will absolutely use them in the future and highly recommend their services.
Had Keith by our new house to swap out some breakers. John, over the phone, was a great help in making sure we got exactly what work we needed, as well as explaining in very thorough detail the safety requirements of the work on our old house. Got them recommended through the local r/SalemMA subreddit and I was very happy with the service, and competitive rates. I would highly recommend them to anyone in the area.
You could tell they put absolute time and care into every detail of their work. Our panel was labeled meticulously with details such as playroom, or oven, front porch light etc. Everything was incrediblely neatly written and overall just very clean looking. I was so pleasently surprised with how happy I could be with how electrical work turned out. I am very thankful for the work the team at Jolt did.
Our dishwasher started giving off a burning-plastic smell around 9 p.m., so I searched online and found Jolt through a Reddit thread with great recommendations. I called that night expecting to leave a voicemail, but John—the owner—actually answered. He was incredibly helpful over the phone and even offered to send someone out immediately. We chose to schedule for the next morning instead, and they arrived exactly on time at 7 a.m. They sent Keith, who was fantastic—professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable. He diagnosed the issue—a loose connection in the junction box that caused the cap to melt—and repaired it quickly. He also brought the dishwasher’s wiring setup up to code. The price was very fair, and the workmanship was excellent. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again. The only surprise was that they don’t generally prefer to accept credit cards. We were able to work out a solution so I could still pay by card, but just be aware that it may not be their standard payment option. I understand why—the fees are brutal—and I was happy to cover the fee for the convenience. Overall, highly recommended.
