Few contractors around Boston can claim a longer paper trail: the BBB has had a file on Lifetime Home Improvement since 1993, grades it A+, and lists the Walpole company as started in 1971, run by president Barry J. O'Brien with a six-person crew. The company itself says it has spent five decades on one kind of work — exterior remodeling — installing replacement windows, doors, vinyl siding, and gutters across Eastern and Central Massachusetts, Southern New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (#112480) is active. The hiring picture is more mixed than the credentials. On Google it holds a 4-star average across 8 ratings, and when a Quincy homeowner asked Reddit for general-contractor names, a neighbor offered Lifetime unprompted. But the only review of the last six months runs the other way: a May 2026 customer opens with "DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY," says they'd give zero stars if possible, and describes window work that turned out average with headaches afterward. An older complaint tells a similar story about the company not standing behind finished work. That pattern — strong institutional credentials, disputed follow-through — is the thing to settle before hiring. Get the workmanship warranty in writing, and ask specifically what happens if something fails after the crew leaves. For a straightforward window, siding, or gutter job from a long-established local shop, Lifetime has the tenure and the active registration to be on the list. Just make the post-job support terms explicit before signing.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Whatever you do, look elsewhere for work. They will take advantage of you and do not care about their customers. I would give zero stars if possible. When we first bought our house 8 years ago we had a few small windows in our basement and a window in our shower that needed to be replaced. We found Lifetime Home Improvement online and had them come to replace the windows. The work was average (we discovered how average after having real contractors come by for other renovations later) and not worth headaches that it caused after. Over the next few years, Lifetime Home Improvement cold called myself and my wife monthly, if not more, asking if we needed more work to our home. We told them consistently no and we would contact them if we had any work that needed to be done. They contacted us so often that we were forced to block their numbers because it was becoming a problem. Then the real headache came. The window in our bathroom had a handle broken that would not allow us to close the window. Since the window was under warranty, we reached out to Lifetime Home Improvement to have it resolved. They advised us that labor was not included and we said we understood, please provide an invoice for the work. They first came by to check on the window and tried to close the window, although we told them it would not close. When they finally agreed, we were told they would order a new part. A few days later it was ordered and we were told we had to wait 3 weeks. After about 4 weeks they came by to do the work. We again asked for an invoice but the contractor said he just does the work. Since it was November, cold out, we had a small child, and were due with another child in a few weeks, we had no choice but to let him start to get resolved. We couldn't wait any longer. Once the work was completed, we received an invoice in the mail for a price of $460! We couldn’t believe that the cost was that high for something so small and easy to resolve. If we knew the price would be that high, we would have had it supplied under warranty by them and gotten another contractor to install. In the invoice, it was one lot price. No breakdown of costs. We were charged to visit our house to make the same determination as us, order and pick up parts, and throw away a small window handle in the trash. From our experience with many many contractors and confirmation from other laborers, the labor is the actual work. Not the visiting, ordering, or picking up parts at a store. The contractor was here for less than 90 minutes. We reached out to discuss and were told every time, "It is what it is". They would provide no other information, no breakdowns of line item costs, as he stated it was already very detailed. We reached out more times over the next couple of months, they would ignore our calls and not answer our voicemails. We had just had a second baby and were extremely busy with everything that entails, but still reached out to try and resolve the situation. We sent a check for our valuation and it was returned. It led to Lifetime putting a lien on our home. This was 6 weeks after coming home with a child and over $460! Instead of having a conversation as adults, they went a route that they knew would be a major headache for all involved. Then refused to remove the lien until we paid their invoice and the costs to file everything! It was a massively frustrating process on our end. We were taken advantage of by a company that was expected to stand by their product and provide a warranty repair. It is the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with. Please understand, if you go into business with this company, it will not be worth all the issues that come with it.

Lifetime remodeled my kitchen and bathroom and I couldn’t be more happy with the final product. I’ve had a vision of a more modern look for my kitchen for years but never thought it would look as good as it does now. Barry the owner of the company spent countless amounts of hours showing me and my husband different products until we were able to come to a final decision we were both happy with. We thank him for his patience!! I would highly recommend Lifetime to anyone looking to make any changes to their home at an affordable price. Thank you Barry!

Barry did a siding job for my home two months ago. I was beyond happy with the finished product. He spent a lot of extra time and effort showing me many different options and I was very satisfied with my final choice. The whole experience was a pleasure and I would highly recommend Lifetime for your home improvement needs.

Had this company replace my roof and a a couple windows a few years back. Having them come back out to look at replacing a sliding glass door and deck. Spectacular service! Couldn’t recommend them enough!

This company does not stand behind their work. I have a roof that was installed 2 years ago and it leaked. There was damage to the inside and outside of the house. I thought since I have used this company in 2 houses and spent about $70,000 (siding, gutters etc.in 2 homes). that Barry, the owner would stand behind his work. He looked at the damage and said it wasn't his problem. The leak was due to the pellet stove pipe. I told him that the stove pipe, if questionable when he replaced the roof, should have been replaced. As anyone knows, that's the right time to do it to prevent problems in the future. Barry refused to take care of the damage both inside and outside. I had a stove company replace the stove pipe and they too said that the roof shingles should not have been installed unless the boot of the pipe was replaced. It is over 20 years old and had several small cracks in the seams. I trusted the owner to stand behind his work. For the $650 dollars that it cost me to fix the problem, he lost a loyal customer and damaged his reputation. I am going to file a formal complaint with the state licensing board. The company that replaced the pipe said that they would gladly write a statement. Patti E
