Mark Richey Woodworking makes architectural millwork at industrial scale: a 2023 officeinsight piece described a 130,000-square-foot Newburyport plant running on wind and solar that burns its own manufacturing waste for heat. The company works out of 40 Parker Street and says it was founded in 1981 — 45 years by its own count — building custom millwork and, through its WallGoldfinger division, custom corporate furniture. Its work goes into concert halls, museums, academic buildings and corporate interiors rather than kitchens. A 2018 Woodshop News feature counted 110 full-time employees plus anywhere from 50 to 300 subcontractors, and WCVB's 2020 segment showed several projects moving at once, from music halls to well-known high-tech companies. In 2021 a trade write-up marked the company's fortieth year and traced it back to a basement workshop. The company describes itself as a woman- and minority-owned and certified business, and others describe it that way too: a 2021 officeinsight article called it a minority and woman owned manufacturer, and a 2024 Lakeside Alliance subcontractor spotlight said the firm is certified as a Minority/Woman-Owned Business Enterprise. The written customer record is dated. Google shows 4.8 across 16 ratings, but only five people wrote anything, and the newest is from December 2019 — an installer with 39 years in architectural millwork who said that from drafting through delivery he had seen no equal. The four before it, written between 2017 and 2019, praise the workmanship and the shop itself in similar terms. Two things to raise on a first call. This is a commercial and institutional manufacturer — its Procore profile lists it as a specialty contractor in design and engineering, BIM and model making, finish carpentry and construction management, with 65 projects tracked there — so a house-sized job needs an upfront conversation about fit and minimums. Woodworking Network has also reported a sawdust explosion in the plant's furnace with no injuries, which makes plant safety a fair question. For built-in millwork where the drawings and the finish both have to hold up, this is the tier of shop that does it. Ask what residential scope they take, what lead times look like, and for a recent reference — the written trail stops in 2019.
