Mass Landscaping has operated out of Hanover, MA since 2005 — 21 years, per its Better Business Bureau file — under owner Evaldo Carvalho, and describes itself as a family-run, full-service outfit: landscape design and installation, lawn care, hardscaping and retaining walls, irrigation, bobcat and grading work, yard renovation, and commercial snow plowing. It holds a BBB A+ letter grade, though it has never applied for BBB accreditation. Its Google profile shows 3.8 stars across 14 ratings, but the small set of written reviews behind that number tell a more mixed story than the average alone suggests — praise for the quality of finished work sits alongside complaints about job follow-through and scheduling reliability. The gap matters: Birdeye's separate listing for the company, filed under its Hanover address, shows a lower 3.3 stars from its own small pool of reviews, echoing that same split rather than the higher Google average. Worth asking about directly before booking: get the scope of any larger job spelled out in writing rather than a loose verbal estimate, and ask how the crew handles scheduling and any accidental damage to underground lines or plantings during work — both come up as recurring themes in what customers have flagged. It's also worth confirming which location you're actually dealing with: some directories (BBB, Houzz, BestProsInTown) still list an older Braintree address, while the company's own site and Birdeye point to Hanover. For routine seasonal work — mowing, cleanups, snow plowing — Mass Landscaping has two decades of history and a mix of long-term and one-off customers behind it. For a bigger hardscaping or grading job, put the plan and price in writing up front and confirm how damage during work would be handled before the crew starts.

I scheduled the company for a spring cleanup. They came out and quickly gave me an estimate. The written estimate included no detail as to what was to be done so I spent the next couple weeks messaging with the office manager, trying to get the scope of work documented on the estimate. A few weeks later the work was done but the team damaged my drip irrigation and didn’t mow the backyard. They also didnt clean around my shed or backfill the wood chips they removed once they came back. They were here 4-5 times over a few months time to address the clean up and damages. I ended up just paying the invoice and moving on from them without the wood chips being spread around my back shed. They wanted an additional $800 to spread maybe 3 wheelbarrows full of cheap pine chips. Will not be using again.

They are ok. They do a quick and great job whenever they come to mow, but they never come on time. Usually it'll be a week before I realize we were due for a mow, so we'll call them up and the lady will say "they are on their way" and they'll show up 30 minutes later, but I'm pretty sure they just forgot about us...
